+500% increase in Google visitors for 24 hrs

Hi,

My site is just over 6 months old and I've been doing the onpage and offpage optimisation for the site. These are my stats for referrals from Google (organic):

21st May : 14
22: 15
23: 14
24: 9
25: 11
26: 7
27: 13
28: 13
29: 20
30: 34
31: 80
1 June: 24
2: 9
3: 11
4: 21
5: 15
6: 15
7: 18
8: 19
9: 16

Ok so you see from the above on 31st May I got 80 referrals. I checked the Google SERP's on this day and found for a host of terms I've been optimising for I was in the top 5 of Google.

However since then I'm +50 for the terms. My theory is that I am still in the sandbox but for 30th May I was temporary shown as out of the sandbox.

Anyone else got any ideas or seen anything similar on that date?

I found this thread another forum which seems to be on the issue and also what round abouts the same date.

When my site came out of the sanbox it was at the same time as many other sites. It did start as a datbase change that happened at some data centres and than migrated. So you could be right.

But than again sometimes google tests stuff and people access that data base/s and see sudden ranking changes.... and nothing changes.

So best of luck I hope it works out good for you site.

Oh yeh I should give you this tool if you dont have it www.mcdar.net if ya want to become a database watcher for signs of change. I reccomend against it, it is quite pointless in the end..but you do see changes comming sometimes..

Hi,

Well I had the same problem a few days back. I am working on a site since 3 months and suddenly one day I saw 3 of my very competetive keywords were on the first page of google and were ranking on no. 4,9,2 respectively. I was quite happy to see the results but, the very next day all the ranks went past 100.
Even I as wondering what went wrong and then realised may be it was some kind of google dance which was happening.

Yes, a couple of threads here on seochat discussed the same thing. It was only a couple of hours on the 31st may. Someone said he paid the downpayment for a new maserati that day.

however, it was all gone after some hours.

Two explanations were given:
- google error (doubt it though)
- google testing

Since so far this has never come up again as SERPs, i guess they didnt like the results.

One things seems pretty common in all commentors: It were new sites (sandboxed?) that suddenly ranked well, sometimes extremely well, and the changes happened on the competitive terms.

My 2 cents: My SERPs have had fluctualtions already the days before the 31st may, then boom 1st page on almost everything i am targeting, then after that worse than before and extremely (!) stable

cristine01,

You are 100% correct, it was only for a few hours and i thought I was an SEO genius.

Maybe they are the results if the sites were not in the sanbox. Hopefully they will be like this in a few weeks again.
