    301 Redirect

we are changing domain name and upgrading to new website.
A lot of the pages from the old website wont be on the new website , should i do a "301 redirect" for each one of those pages
for their main category page on the new website (since they won't exist any more)or not?

I would 301 redirect them all. Basically if you don't people may be taken to 404 pages from search engines when clicking on your listings. You want to avoid that unless you have a very tailored 404 page.

If I have an old page that isn't relevant to any section on my new design I would send the old page to the homepage of my new design.

I hope that helps - this is just my opinion on the matter though, others may say something entirely different.

I think to give 301 redirect for 404 pages is the best option instead you remove 404 pages from search engine. Redirect 404 pages to related pages instead of redirecting all 404 pages to original domain.

    Hi Amit,
Yes you should "do a "301 redirect" for each one of those pages for (to) their main category page on the new website"
(unless you know of an instance where there is a more relevant page than the main category page to redirect to, in which case do that)!
