Google has begun talks with publishers about compiling a searchable database of the contents of thousands of book volumes

This is analagous to Amazon allowing Internet users to look for information by enabling them to search for words or phrases in its own database of the Book contents .

WOW! Now that would be extremely useful. Happy to see Google still cares about providing information instead of chasing the elusive dollar than made many SE of past crumble.
