I installed it, but just uninstalled it, I'm worried that Google will somehow use this to effect the ranking of my websites. (but I'm probably just being paranoid)

Here's a silly question. What can a webmaster do to prevent users from using Web Accelerator on their website. You cant ban it with robots.txt or .htaccess. If a webmaster doesnt want any prefetching there is nothing they can do about it. Also are they clear as to what actually happens to the pages after they download them?? Are they cached in Google's system? If so doesnt this violate some site's TOS about copying their articles, news, etc.
Also with all the prefetching isnt Google essentially robbing webmasters of their bandwidth? Just because something is prefetched doesnt mean that site will be looked at. Ok maybe those are a few questions |

Fantomaster explains how to block the GWA using .htaccess... See:
http://www.threadwatch.org/node/2463 ...for a link to that and some comments on the whole thing. |

Exactly. Sounds like a GREAT way to potentially (and anonymously) detect ip delivery (aka cloaking) systems without hiring an army of searchers. ;) |
