Google Tasteless
Is this tasteless or what! I just found this post over at seo book. I can't believe Google advertise this stuff. I'm squeezing the stress ball! I think I'm going to smash something!

Really? You find this absurdly offensive enough to create a post?
It's an ad serving network that uses computer algorithms to match heaps and heaps of ads a day based on certain keywords on a page. Big deal.
It's not their discretion whether to make moral calls. It could have been on a Swinger Club Site where that could have been even more relevent. It's not like they said to themselves "Hah, she just got married. I want to ruin that. Here's an ad to destory it".

I also do not like the fact that they/their algo scans my email and have stopped using my gmail account, it feels WRONG to read a personal email about a depressed friend that recently had a death in the family, and getting all sorts of weird ads. So, thanks for posting about this seogoat. I hope someone at google is also on this forum (surely they will be) and note that there are vast amounts of people that do not like the ads they are serving.
imho gmail should restrict content of the email ads to certain categories only

I case of overly sensitive blogging methinks. Lonely cheating wives exist, as do not so lonely cheating husbands -- nothing illegal about it. I'd be more concerned if Google tried turning themselves into some kind of morality police.
I also find it somewhat ironic that he claims it's offended his conservative Catholic sensibilities when we compare the morality of marital infidelity with that of, how shall we put it, some of the darker periods of Catholicism. Burning innocents alive, not a problem, cheating on your husband -- outrageous.
It's an advert, if it doesn't interest you then ignore it.

It's a service provided to you free of charge on the basis that adverts will be served in order to make it profitable. Google is a business. No money = no Google = no free Gmail. If you don't want your emails scanned then don't use it, it's not as if there aren't other solutions out there. Either that or learn not to be so sensitive about everything you see.

You're not a bad person, I would bet everyone at least laughed in their heads a little. Personally, I'm sitting at work and laughed loud, so now people are staring. Oh well.
