Google China - Have Google finally sold out?

It's big news that Google has today launched a Chinese version of the search engine which is highly restricted to not show any information that might damage the chinese government.

For example a search for "tiananmen square" in Google.com returns 2.8m results, the same search in Google.cn returns only 13k. A similar example is "free tibet" (13m against 88k).

So this raises the question: has Google sold out on one of its key principles (do no evil), for the sake of the tapping into the Chinese market for the quest for the Almighty Dollar?

Yes...
But they are not unlike any other very large corporation who have stockholders who demand return on investment.

Anyone whos 401k is conected google stock would probably want them to do what ever they had to do to turn a big profit.

I have a brother in law who works for a large corportation and they do business in China. He travles there frequently and has told me how the company has to bend over backwards if they want to sell software in China.
Way over backwards, but they do what ever it is they have to do to make a profit because the "stock holders", who include ordanary people want a return on investment and a good strong 401k.

By the same token they do what ever they have to do in what ever market they are in to turn a profit.
