Google Central "Brain" Computer - I was right!
Damn it I was right. A few of you may recall my post earlier this year with speculation of a remote computing system from Google.
Well looky here: "The project has some big-name supporters on board, including Google, which is working on thin-client applications. Thin client computing means several machines can share programs when linked up to a central "brain", or server. " This refers to the new sub $100 notebooks being developed: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4292854.stm Dave

Wasn't it you who started a blog that was supposed to track its own progress through the sandbox?
If I remember correctly, you used to post links to your blog here every 2 seconds... What happened to it? I only ever looked at it once, but I seem to remember everybody saying what a great experiment it was - did it die? Is it still alive? Just my Q MCS x |

This type of things are very cool, they are trying to give computers to all the people even the ones that can afford expensive computers.

Is this good for the kids? What else can that $100 do for them?

I dont see a difference, its what my home network is right now. One mce 2005 server and then all other crap computers boot up and login to that master server and everything is mega fast even on 1ghz pcs because everything is loading in the server not the crap computers. I won't be using somthing like this with google, no way would I want all my stuff on there servers.
Its basically remote desktop and everyone has their own user accounts. |

Hmm all the recent news about Google make me think they are becoming control freaks, this is even a bit scary... Will they put Google accounts on everybody's forehead next?

Interesting idea. I can see this as developing into a pretty big thorn in the sides of M$.

This reminds me of an espisode of "Outer Limits" where everyone was connected and tracked everyone except for this one guy who was free of the "system". Very strange lol.

Dont forget, Larry said its going to take them 300 years to index all the worlds information. Wonder how deep that goes, does that mean they will know when I last cleaned my teeth?

The idea is intersting... but honestly I doubt I'll be intersted of it due privacy and security reasons.

thats what many (including myself) said about gmail, personalised search, customised homepage, yet we are using these systems. Why should another new system from google be any different?
