My long term feelings are that Microsoft will win.

Just like with the browser wars.

Netscape could not compete when IE was installed as the default browser on every windows machine.

When search become part of the Win OS, it is just a matter of time for Google to go under.

I am sorry to feel this way but I beleive it is the truth. I loved Netscape a few years back, but then I too switched. I love Google now, but who knows what the future holds? M$ is a powerful and influcencial company.

I think Microsoft will need to be a little more cautious if they do build their own search engine into the OS... Building the browser in is what nearly had them split into three companies a few years ago by the government.

If they did the same thing again, I would think the government would come down a bit harder on them.

Personally, I doubt MSN (or whatever they call it) will ever be very relevant. Microsoft is more about maximizing their revenue than giving relevant results. But then again, the majority of Windows users wouldn't know any better, so... {shrug}

No doubt... it's scary to think that the primary search engine of the web ever be controlled by Microsoft, but it could happen.

I think anyone who knows anything (outside of Redmond) is praying it never happens... including myself.

*If* they did *and* it was as relevant as Google, I would have no problem with it... I'm not a Microsoft hater, I just think they push poor products/services by way of their marketing engine. That's what scares me...

I hope it never does, but as you say - microsoft does it for the money, not for the passion.

I have some interesting stuff to add based on todays conference sessions, please be sure to check the blog. I will try to place the excerpts here. Give me about 4 hours to get everything down and then posted.

I am also working on my own Google Florida Update article (started it on the flight to Chicago, hope to conclude on the flight back to New York).
