To Adsense or Not to Adsense?
Thinking about adding an adsense area to my pages for my site. Being that my site is a store and I actualy try and keep people around to buy things from me would using Adsense to make some extra money be a good idea or will it hurt my site?

If it's not just a store but you're also actually selling something I wouldn't even consider putting up adsense or anything like that...
Pure waste of client potential |

I wouldn't put adsense on such a site... it most probably would link to competitors (based on content similraity) so why help them get the big money and you remain only with some cents?

You work hard to get people to your site - don't show them the exit when they get there. Instead, lock the doors behind them, turn them upside down and shake them until money starts falling from their pockets!

As all things in life... it depends. I agree with the above on all of my landing pages, i.e. no AdSense. But, we also have added three other sections to our site that are not related to our product pages as far as sales: accounting glossary, accounting employment, and consumer financing. On those 3 sections we have loaded them up with AdSense and affiliates. Besides our normal product sales revenue (not affected at all from the other 3 sections) we bring in an additional $3K + per month from those non-sales sections.
Bottomline is that if you can experiment and develop AdSense site sections that are related but not truly competitive subject matter, you can make good revenue. Brainstorm and develop related pages that will not impact on your normal sales. If, in the final analysis, the new pages are negative contributors, you can always drop the ads. To quote my friend Egol: experiment, experiment, experimet. When you get tired of that, experiment some more.

I will have to think about this for a bit... I don't want to take away a potential sale on my site for the potential pennies I will get from Adsense but It might work if I place it in the right places.
Thanks for the food for thought! |
