Targeted Adsense Ads - everytime...
Check out this little test I ran. Seems Adsense really relies a lot on your meta tags and page title.
http://www.TheOfficialScoop.info/index.php?id=fly-fishing Put any keyword in place of fly-fishing (use - instead of spaces) and you'll see the adsense ads update. G-Man

AdSense will re-scan any time there is a different parameter passed that it doesn't have cached. At least that is what tests have shown on my sites. If I have changed my content and want AdSense ads to update quicker, I put a false parameter on the end, and AdSense rescans.
When I checked your link though, it was still more content related ads than fly-fishing. That's a heckuva lot of content, but I didn't get the same experience yo udid with the ad type change I guess. |

I got Geoff's intended result for all terms for which I changed the id. I did however get sound card / notebook ads for the "default" fly-fishing id.
Perhaps there are two scans? One pulls meta data until it can come examine the rest of the document more thoroughly. This also relates to what Mike said about adsense rescanning when it detects new parameters. What are your results with other terms that you tried? I used super bowl tickets, mesothelioma, and google ranking and got ads relavant to those searches each time. I'll check again in a week to see if the results mimic that of fly fishing or if they are the same. . Edit: Run it without parameters, other than the additional ad box, I get the same result as running it with fly-fishing If I change the parameter to fly-fish, I get fly fishing ads Great test, thanks! Ya Meta Tags and Title Tags alone won't trick the adsense code. Google is smarter than that

I tried this on my dynamic site and the ones that show PSA ads still show PSA ads.

I was running some close-to-real-subject-but-not-quite ads by having some hidden text.... but I got skeered and took it off. Would suck to get busted and be making 0 dollars a day.

I thought meta tags were not big for google. I thought it relied more on content and the title and h1 tags.

Adsense is different! It does a quick scan and puts ads up straight away, this is where you could trick it in putting non-related H1 and meta but, however it's a short lived thing so don't bother making it part of the business plan ;) you'll be spidered properly and get the correct ads. So yea you're right Google uses content far more than meta after it's done a full page crawl. |
