New Adwords Policy
Email from Google (snipped)
"With this new affiliate policy, we'll only display one ad per search query for affiliates and parent companies sharing the same URL." "If we find that two or more ads compete under the same URL, we'll display the ad with the highest Ad Rank. " "If you're an affiliate, this means that you no longer need to identify yourself as an affiliate in your ad text." "Affiliates or advertisers using unique URLs in their ads will not be affected by this change. Please note that your Display URL must match the URL of your landing page, and you may not simply frame another site." ---- I understand why they are doing this but by unique URL do they mean the domain name ie amazon.com or are different affiliate links considered unique? ie amamzon/?afflink=1 and amazon.com/?afflink=2 Last edited by DerekZ : January 6th, 2005 at 11:32 PM. |

Um, probably ebay, various vitamin/health companies, software, etc...

The rumor circulating is that Google made a mistake and meant to say domain, not URL.
Which is in my opinion an obvious conclusion... it would otherwise not change anything... This change includes "all" affiliates. There will only be 2 identical "domains" showing at one time in the Search Result... The affiliate and the parent company... The affiliates will have to compete for that top spot... OR, design a landing page with a different domain name promoting the parent... This is all effective January 12th... |

Great. I can look forward to seeing fewer ads and sites that teach... "How I Made $1,758 on May 31, 2004 Using The Power of Google Without a Website or Owning a Product! You Can Learn How In a Few Hours...Guaranteed!"
only $46.48 !! Last edited by DerekZ : January 7th, 2005 at 06:56 PM. |

No, you're right, you are going to be freed of that hype.
Believe it or not, people did make money without a website or owning a product... I did.... it took me longer than a few hours to learn how to do it however. ;-) |

DerekZ right, it really is that simple. I just started doing the same thing myself and it does work, or should I say did work ;) |

duh...yeah, sorry...
I know that one. course when we tried it, we didn't think of the link directly TO the product site, instead we simply created a skinny website with all the links thereon going to the product...a la www.best-photo-stopper.com...works too... :-) Jim |

Unfortunately, this new policy has affected almost all of my Adword campaigns, and now I have to start from scratch.
It's all about the landing pages, and creatives, I guess. |

Well it's confusing the hell out of me, these changes went into effect on the 12th? Why aren't I getting kicked off my campaigns yet, wierd.
I'm also going the landing pages route now, it's much more secure. The direct linking affiliate seems to be going extinct and I want to keep up with the times, and have a steadier income. |
