Mystery Quality Score question
Hey All,
I just have one question that has been bothering me for quite some time now. How does the keyword "handyman" with decent CTR, bounce rate and good url history get a quality score of 1/10 for this page: handymandenver . com /landingpages/home-repair/Handyman_Home_Repair.html?_vsrefdom=remodeling I fail to see the problem, but i hope you experts can advise. Appreciate your help. Thanks, Anas |

First, I think "handyman" is a too vague. You need to be more specific in the type of work you do. Google probably agrees if you check the keyword's relevancy. I bet it's marked as not being relevant.
QS is a number that largely depends on your click rate. It is also a relative number of how well you are doing against the historical average. If you CTR is 2% but the keyword historically gets 4%, your QS will be lower (not taking into account keyword relevancy portion). In your case, a QS of 1 is effectively the off switch. Usually, this occurs when you violate the TOS. But your click rate could be so bad compared to others that your QS gets this low rating. If you have poor keyword relevancy and believe that to be in error, you could always email Google and ask for a manual review. If you violated the TOS, you will get a standard answer. Hopefully, you have not yet been banned. |

Thanks for your response!
Well, i agree to all your points there. However, I've used that keyword for quite some time now and it has got me the most conversions. I didn't want to pause this keyword. The CTR is around 3%. I didn't notice before, but since you mentioned, i checked the reason for the low score (on the Status pop up). It actually says 'Landing Page Quality: Poor'. That's weird - coz thats the last thing I would expect. the landing page has everything that Google loves! Im perplexed ... unless im missing something! |

"handyman".... Do you provide service in Cleveland, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Biloxi, Fort Worth, Tucson and Seattle? My bet is that google sees your site as relevant for a limited geographic area and downgrades your quality score because your KW is too broad.
Get geographic in your keywords and I bet your quality score goes up.... and I bet it will save you a lot of money.
