Just started using Google Adsense

Hi,
I have just started using Google adsense and was wondering if anyone else is making a good profit from this. Can you give me some tips to maximize my earning potential?
Thanks,
Ptdirect

Depends how much traffic your site is getting?

The biggest factor is a) the cost of the kw's for your sites topic , and b) how you convert your traffic.

You can find out the general cost of kw's at overtures "view bids" tool. Some keywords pay $50 for a single click, others pay 5 cents....

To convert your traffic well (get more clicks/% of visitors) you need experiment with different formats and colors. And keep your adsense above the fold. I have a forum that gets 5,000 views a day but the kw's only pay 5 cents a click and get a 1% conversion... I have a seperate site getting 50 views a day that pays me $2.00/click (average) and converts over 20%

I think my conversion ratio is the problem . I get paid .90 cents a click but i no one is clicking on the links!!!. The colors match my site so it blends in. Shoud I make them stand out? can you pm me your url for the sited that has a 20% ratio so i can have something to go by?
Thanks

To make any real money you need to work on getting more traffic to your site, with the traffic your getting at the moment you'll probaly get someone click every few days.

It can depend where the ad words are located on your page. I like putting the adwords right up at the top of the page and I use colors that do not blend with my page.

It can also depend on what you are providing your visitors. If you are providing useful information or services free of charge, people tend to click on the adsense ads purely out of appreciation and thanks for what you have given them.

If your site is selling something, peolple are - maybe - less likely to click on your ads.

Of course, I'm talking here as if the ads on our sites don't entice people enough by their mere wording... but it's kind of true...

My experience says - non-commercial site - put any old adsense on it - if people like what they get, they'll click!

My site is a personal trainer referral service and is totally free. I think that my placement( under my navigation links on the left hand side) and traffic are the main problems. I am working on the traffic( trying to get my site higher in search engines) as we speak. I am in the Sandbox so there is no telling when my traffic will pick up from that search engine. i am placed well in MSN and am not doing so good with yahoo. So i guess more work on my end is required!! Thanks for your imput!!!

Ad placement is critical. My click-thru rate went up by a factor of 4 just by rearranging the ads on the page. It took weeks of tinking for me to get just the right combination. However, I have a lot of visitors, so it is pretty easy for me to figure the averages. I would work on getting more visitors first so that you know your click-thru rates are from a large enough sample to be meaningful, then adjust your positioning, colors, etc., then wait a few days and see what the new results are. There is no one formula that works for any site, you really need to just play around for a while.

Most folks I see put them on the right hand side, in plain view. That's where mine are, and I make enough off them to pay for about 1/2 of my hosting costs.

Get a billion visitors and you'll get rich quick. 50-100 visitors a day will take months if not years, or December, just to get your first check. Make a mesothelioma site and then you can rack in the cash!

Oh, and next time post on the right board!

Experiment and keep very good records. I have kept records over several million pageviews and plot them on an excel time sequence with positions and colors coded along the horizontal axis of the graph.

Position on the page, colors, and format all make a difference... but more important for me is what is competing for attention on the same page and how much I want to promote those things compared to the adsense. Because of that anyone can post what works for them but it might have terrible results for you.

Bottom line... experiment and keep great records... and remember the CTR and income of your ads can be greatly influenced by who is advertising today and how much they are bidding and how sexy their ad is written. All the more reason to STUDY and not take generalized advice.
