Great! buy babys - ebay says "save big" buy children - ebay has "great deals" drool - ebay has a "great selection" human organs - ebay has a "huge selection" pubic wig - ebay has "new and used" . . . USED? YUK! vampire blood - ebay has "for sale" etc., etc., etc.</edit> Last edited by Surf-Dude : January 15th, 2005 at 04:31 PM. |

Not to worry, starting around Jan 15th, these ads will be removed. Most of them have already been removed, check them now.
Then of course, you have people to intentionally target these words. Sad... |

Can you explain that statement? As far as I was aware, Adwords new rules affect the results when there are multiple affiliates bidding for the same word. There is only one affiliate, 9 times out of 10, bidding for these wacky words. I don't think you will see any change in regards to the issue brought up by this thread.

Jason: You are correct. Previously, there were a couple affiliates bidding for these phrases (most of them unintentionally). Now that controversy has settled around this issue, the number of affiliates have pulled their ads.

Yes but those arent affiliate ads. eBay uses a company called Mediaplex (http://www.mediaplex.com) that strings together set keywords into adwords ads. It's keyword management that went alittle goofy. Nothing to do with affiliates what so ever.
Mediaplex spiders ebay auctions and grabs keywords for each auction and puts them in a bin because if there are results for that keyword than the kewword is valid. The spider crawls and finds a "Dawn of the Dead" movie on auction and puts dead in the bin. Next it finds a "People vs Larry Flint" movie on auction and puts people in the bin. (It repeats this process for thousands of auctions). Now you have two words that will bring up results so when someone looks up "dead people" both keywords have results therefore an eBay ad shows up. The system automatically fills in the title and an ad for "Dead People on eBay" is born. Quite simple really just can lead to funny quirks ;) |

Interesting, that explains why I see so many irrelevant Adwords targeting random words. |

Thats awesome. Funny that you went through all the trouble lol
I dont think eBay is to blame but nonmoderated keyword optimization software but I agree eBay should follow the same standards as the rest of us are forced to. |

A Google AdWords rep on another forum (SEW) had this to say:
Quote:
I say it's Google's fault. The reviewer, at least initially, is not looking at the ads themselves, but at lists of keywords. Furthermore, the reviewer probably uses scanning software to pick out words to consider. Google needs to hire more low-wage temp drones to get a handle on this. It's another example of Google getting rich by creating bigger and better bots, and then when things screw up, blaming it on something outside of their control. |

How can it be Google's fault if a third party optimization company is responsible for submitting the keywords?? It's just as bad as Google being sued because users abuse the system and target trademarked keywords. Why not just sue the car companies when you get into a car accident??? ;) |

Kinda Funny
Things have taken another humorous turn.
eBay now has ads for "Sheat", an acronym I created for my eBay Ads web page - "Slightly-Hokey-Ebay-Ad-Text", or perhaps "Similarily-Horrible-eBay-Ad-Titles", or whatever. I checked dictionary.com. "Sheat" is not a word. I coudn't resist. I added the sheat ebay ad to my page - http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/ebay-ads.htm Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaa. Sheeeeeeeeee-heh-heh-hit. |
