Hi
I'm fairly new to google adwords as I have only been using it for about 6 weeks. Recently I noticed that I was receiving an unusually high number of clicks to my site. However, without going into too much detail yesterday google adwords claimed to send me 201 visitors, yet my reporting site said that my total for the day was 204. I went through the individual IP addresses and it shows that 75% of my visitors were at the site for 0mins and 0seconds. I am told this is the google spider or googlebot but it is obviously charging me for all these spider hits. What can I do? I dont like to think that I am forking out for people to see and click on my ads, but I am not actually getting visitors to my site. Any help would be good. Should I remove my site from google? I am nowhere near the top of the searchings and would be hard to get there as its a very competitive industry I am in. Cheers |

I can almost guarantee that it's not Google. You may be the subject of click fraud, but it is NOT Google doing it. Chances are more likely that your statistics package is faulty.
Quite simply, you haven't posted enough information to help you one way or the other. ADDED: I assumed by your post that you were referring to clicks comeing through your adwords that were there for 0 seconds. If you are looking at all your stats combined, then it could be Google, but they aren't coming from your ads, and therefore you aren't paying for them. |

Well to be honest all my clicks are coming through google at the moment anyway so yes I am
referring to clicks coming through adwords for 0mins and 0seconds. All I know is that I have been charged for 201 clicks from google adwords, and that 150 of those were there for 0mins and 0seconds. Not much good to me. So surely these clicks must have come from google because I am not advertising anywhere else, and no one could be in and out a site that quickly. I have read other posts from other sites saying that this is almost certainly googles spider. You dont think so? What other info should I be volunteering here? How does it track how long the users have been on the site? If its by the length of time between page loads from the same IP then users which only look at one page will be listed as 0.
Its not the googlebot. Adsense ads are displayed using JavaScript which the googlebot ignores. |

Thats right, googlebot will not follow adwords. IMO its somthing related to click frauds. You try checking the refering ip address. Last edited by ezhil : March 22nd, 2005 at 11:56 PM. Reason: inclusion |

Can you post a sample of your Raw log file for this day? say 10 lines...
Your be able to see the ip address etc... Many stats packages are crap IMHO... always take the results with a pinch of salt...

Look, by your own admission you're green. Chances are that what Pike said is what is happening. If someone is coming to the site, reading a little and then clicking the back button, chances are your logs are recording zero. I've no doubt that your traffic is coming FROM google. Now let me reiterate: GOOGLE IS NOT CLICKING ON ITS OWN ADS!!! They would have been discovered for something like that a loooong time ago by much more sophisticated methods than some guy with a statistics app. I'm no Google lover, but you really need to stop believing everything you read. If you take my advice and choose not to believe this post, then fine, go stick your little tin hat on and remove your ads from Google, it really is that easy. |

that doesn't make sure though that google would follow its own ads. that flaw would have been picked up a long time ago.
