Finding qualified traffic and advertising sources from Adwords/Adsense Content ads.
We're finding something interesting and wondering about your experience.
Our adwords campaign is placed in adsense content ads along with google and se's using google. The volume of impressions from content sources is 15-25 the volume of impressions from google itself. Our adwords in both google, se partners and content are regional...as we are a regional business. By drilling down from our logs reports, we are finding specific content ads (through sites carrying adsense) where we are getting some conversions. Some of those sites are optimized for phrases we were testing in adwords to see if we can expand our site into areas of other interest. Two ideas. We can look to advertise direct, with banner, links, etc in those sites. We feel more comfortable about expanding the site into other keyword phrases and content that might draw from searchers for those phrases. What other insights and experiences do you have from adwords results from content ad placement? Dave |

I'm very curious how, if at all you guys are taking advantage of information from content ads. Our instinct is to advertise directly into some of the content sources that delivered conversions. Has anyone done this and seen different (better or worse) results?
Are there any other insights to be gained from this that I'm missing? Dave |

If you can advertise directly on some of the sites that are converting well for you I would imagine you would see better results. It gives you more control over your ads, and even gives you the chance to speak with the consumers about your product (depending on the site, forums, etc)

Thanks 1eight. That's my thought. I'm still trying to keep this thread alive, hopefully on some weekdays when there is some traffic here to see if anyone has experience in this or any other ideas from finding good content sources from Adsense.

Technology to support matching ads to content source
Have you found any technologies to help enable you to work w/that specific content source and have the AdSense-like functionality of contextually placing your ads on that site? I ask because I'm investigating a company that has the tech for going through unstructured content (ie. regular text articles) and matching that to the appropriate ads. They can do this for matching any two types of content databases (ie. ads/content pages, one article/related article, question/appropriate answers, etc.), and would just be applying their tech to this prob. They're also looking at working w/affiliate programs to get at merchants' product databases and contexutally placing actual product offers across their affiliate/partner sites. If you've run into any companies that can facilitate this as well it would be great to know about this. Thx.

Welcome to the forums, Direwolf. Complex questions. Not sure what you mean. Possibly restate in simpler language or PM me. I'm a non-techie business person.
BTW. I just went through 1 days worth of log files. Thank god for analyses packages that summarize everything. My eyes are watering. From my perspective what is interesting is finding the context sources that led to adsense hits to my site. Fortunately, for the good of my eyes we are not the highest volume website out there. In one day though, I found an adsense visit from a directory (semi-themed) from where we get some visits and conversions, a theme related site (that I thought was hokey- shows what I know) and another site. I've already seen a couple of adsense conversions from sites that I thought would have relevance/value to us (thanks to good analytics - original source of the conversion page). I haven't looked for technology or a method that ties adsense with contextual content and proximate meaning of language - if that is what you are getting at. If that is what you are asking, I'm simply tracking context sources. My thinking is, (based upon a couple of conversions referred to above) is that there are certain content sources that are of value to our site (possibly as referenced in your question). If there is some repetitiveness in visits from these content sources we will probably look to advertise directly, co-link, or do something with greater visibility. Dave |

This is pretty interesting so far. I've only checked back over 3 days but the visits we are getting from Adsense content ads are from sites that are for the most part sites that are tightly theme connected.
I've another 45 days to go in back checking, if my eyes hold out, but I am aware of 1 or two sites where I need to link, trade links, or advertise, one or two sites that probably merit advertising, and 1 or 2 sites that are theme related, but don't show up in serps at all, including one for sale that is theme oriented. Has anyone else checked the sources of content ads from adsense and are there any other observations or thoughts? (I know I'm repeating myself but this seems to be a way to find qualified sources of leads!) Dave |
