Question Do I have my numbers right?

Hey there!

Say I'd rank #1 on SERPS for a targeted keyword.
On average this keyword gets searched about 300k times a month on Google.

Now, if around 30% out of these 300k click my page (which would be highly relevant to the keyword of course) that would make around 3k hits a day.

Say I've optimized my Adsense blocks and the ads are of course relevant to the topic as well, so they'd get 2% CTR.

2% means 60 clicks a day, and around 1800 clicks a month.

Am I way off with any of these assumptions or are those 2% CTR and 30% Google #1 hits realistic?

I know this depends on the niche and so on but on average? Just a direction if it sounds about right or if basically got something wrong.

By the Numbers

Google #1 usually gets above 50% of the clicks

30% of 300k is not 3k - That is 10% - Should be 90K

2% for Adsense seems a little high - Assume 1% and than go from there.

If you are just trying to calculate a new market and monetize it with adsense it looks like you have picked a fairly high competitive market.

300,000 searches a month and only monetizing it with adsense is leaving a lot of money on the table.

If you can get #1 for a 300,000 searched keyword look at affiliate products or some other way to monetize your site.

I said 3k a DAY, not a month, 90k is for a month ;)

I've heard claimes that people get up to 10% CTR so I thought 2% is already really low...

Somehow missed the day vs month.

You are saying that 2% CTR for adsense. Adsens is when you allow google to display ads on your website.

Adwords is when you pay google to advertise your site.

With ADSENSE you can expect less than 1% CTR but I don't do this because of it being a poor way to monetize a site. Some people have achieved higher but it is usually a blog or content that is talking about the Ad.

For Monetizing you will need to find products that fit the niche that you will be advertising. You can start with Neverblue, Clickbank and etc. Even a amazon, ebay or other product affiliate can give you a better return than Adsense.
