Ok, So I have been using adsense for awhile, but I am curious as to what goes into the algorythm that calculates what ads should be on your site. I run various websites, and I recently discovered that the www.domain.com/folder is a really powerful in what google thinks your site is about.
If someone could help me convince google that just becuase I have a folder call 'photoshop' doesnt mean my site is ALL about photoshop. I dont want the photoshop ads. All I am really looking for here is someone who could link me to the best explanation of how google chooses the ads for your site, that would be amazing. The basics are found in the original AdSense patent application:

What google does is similar to what you see regariding clickable text in any SEOCHAT articles. Google pulls the most relevant terms off the page and creates ads based on the content that you have on your site.
(edit) sorry, that was extremely basic. follow the link ^ Last edited by scottfish : May 25th, 2005 at 08:49 PM. Reason: g |

Thanks, I'll do some reading.
Ive tried adding more content on what I want my ads to be, but its hard. Ive run the adsense program before, but now I have developed a much more complex site, and I have been overconfident that I could get the ads that I wanted. *sigh* |

FatalRemedy,
I had a similar problem, my site is optimized for “blue widgets”, and the page is optimized for “blue striped widgets” but no mater how hard I tried G kept displaying “blue widgets” ads, which I didn’t want. I created internal links with the anchor “blue striped widgets”. That helped a little then I got some external links to the page with the anchor text “blue striped widgets” and Bam, it worked!

I also had a similar problem - I have a page where I wrote a 1,000 word article. Of that article about 150-200 words are an engagement ring buying analogy, in the middle of the article. The only Adsense ads that show up are for engagement rings...Pretty useless for my audience.
