AdWords-AdSense Block Diagram

I have tried to summarize the Google ad system in a one-page block diagram -
http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/adw...nse-diagram.htm

THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION TO CLICK ANY ADS.
If you read this, please DO NOT click the ads.
Thank you.

I made the drawing by listening to webmasters here and elsewhere. I want to make it a concensus drawing - if multiple people say the same thing, I will include it. Visual representations help me to understand better what is happening.

What do you think should be added?
What do you think is wrong?
Thank you for your comments.

I just noticed that ALL the signatures are broken!?!? Looks like VB is turned off.
Whoops! Fixed in the blink of an eye!

Surf-Dude, Bellow your diagram you said:
Quote:
This explains why Google AdSense usually pays far less per click to content publishers than they pay to Google Searchers, since the perception is that clicks from content pages are worth less than clicks from the Google Search page.

But then added the qualifier:
Quote:
However, this has often been shown to not be the case.

It seams to me that the first part of your statement is quite true. I have a mortgage related site and the pennies I get for those terms are so low that they are actually comical. I am really working hard on optimizing the pages to prove your qualifying statement true, but I looks like a loosing battle

Hi Raz.
Thank you for the feedback!

"AdSense" should have been "AdWords"
"pay" should have been "bid"
I went back and tried to fix the wording - I hope it's better.

What I think I meant was -
Some AdWords advertisers who have experimented with the "content switch", have decided to leave it on, because they were getting excellent results in THEIR case - high click-through rates and high conversions.

Search provides the highest volume of impressions.
- Google is doing the optimizing - CTR is probably good
- Always on SERP page 1 . . . and page 2 . . . and

Does "Search Only" USUALLY bring in higher conversion for the advertiser?
I would guess yes. Better (more consistent) targeting?

Have you tried removing AdSense from all your underperforming pages? Say, less than 2% CTR. Current speculation is that you can dramatically increase your EPC by doing this. My early results look very promising. Check out those other threads, where this is discussed.

Hey Surf-Dude,

Appreciate your comments.

The site is very new (went up on the 18th of Nov) and I made some changes. The CTR is pretty good and I am convinced I can increase it If I get G* to do what I want it to do....

Right now I have AdSense running on 3 pages out of a total of 24. And my busiest page has a 7.7% CTR, second Busiest 13.1% and the third 6.1%.

The reason the 2nd most visited is doing so much better is the fact that I somewhat convinced G* to do what I want it to do.

You see, I bring in visitors for Blue Widgets but those looking for Blue Widgets ultimately need striped or poker dot widgets. AdWords insists on displaying Blue Widgets which my visitors don't really need any more, they need to find out about striped and poker dot.

That is the part that's hard to do. I am slowly getting there though... I think... I hope... Well I kind of managed on the 2nd most visited page.

I'm right here Or did I miss the point heh.

Surf-Dude wicked cool diagram bro, still trying to wrap my head around it and I think it may have just made me color blind

As for the EPC, is there any documentation on the adsense site giving any insight into this? I mean is it 20% or 80% and how do we make it 80?

Excellent Questions

Thanks, seo_guy.
Sorry about your eyes! The colors are terrible. I made the drawing with a previous century application, and I only get limited colors. But it is the fastest way for me to crank out something like that.

Yeah, I have the same two questions!

Lowest bid = 5 cents (by definition)
Lowest click payout = 1 cent (multiple reports)
Payout = 20%

Can you also get a 1-cent payout on a 10-cent bid?
If so, that would be 10%.

They won't tell us, so I strongly suspect that, for MOST of us, the payout is MUCH WORSE than we are led to believe. It has nothing to do with the Google claim, "We pay out over 50% to the publisher." BULL. Not THIS publisher. YOU?

I am working on a giant graphic with all known figures thrown in - poisson distribution of all the publishers, total payout, ave. payout per publisher, payout gradient by size, % that turn off content, etc., etc., etc. A vacuum screams to be filled.
