Adsense & Freshbot

Have I read the docs right?

Freshbot isn't used to get the info for the Adsense indexing, they have another?

I was surprised (& pleased) when I added a new page to see that Freshbot visited about 20 minutes later.

Or is Google getting the same bot to do both jobs?

Sarah

Sarah,

The AdSense bot is often called the mediabot. It's UA is currently ...
Mediapartners-Google/2.1
... and has nothing to do with Freshbot.

Thanks Gringo,

The visit I had was definately from Googlebot on a "64.68.87.69" ip address which I call Freshbot. And to a brand new page. No visits to my older pages tho'

Sarah

Sarah,

I've looked at your page, and to be honest I would review your use of AdSense there. For a start I'm not sure how Google would view this line on your page ...

Quote:
Botspotter is a free service so any payments made to the Botspotter team by Google would be greatly appreciated.

The Program Policies include this line ...
Quote:
Web pages may not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes labeling the ads as sponsors as well as asking users to click on the ads or to please visit the sites.

Also, the page seems to go against this term ...
Quote:
Ads may not be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant

Thanks Gringo, I've cleaned up the page ... enough I hope ...

I don't believe I contravene this rule. It seemed consistent to include the ads on this page since the ads were being discussed. The content will be on the site, I just decided it warranted being on an individual page. One of the things Botspotter is trying to do is identify the bots which visit and when.

Personally I don't like banner ads on pages and I use Google's popup blocker.
I much prefer the little sticker sized image ads favoured on technical sites.
Commercial reality is that ads are needed to drive traffic between sites and so Adsense will be used.
If I ever get a check out of them I'll die from shock and the new US tax law which comes into effect this month will mean I'll probably have to pull from Adsense anyway.

I have a logging system that tracks the search engine visits. I'll need to analyse my records further but I differentiate between the no longer used DeepBot and FreshBot based on the range of IP addresses.

My site uses AdSense and has content-aware ads but as far as I can see MediaBot hasn't visited. Therefore it must be using the GoogleBot name and the FreshBot IP range.

I will analyse further to see if I can see any proper patterns but today is Christmas (we get it first) and I have kids to play with!

Merry Xmas everyone!
