Exclamation Clicks, Clicks and More Clicks but no revenue

    Hi Guys,

I posted earlier regarding thousands of clicks but no revenue so i thought i'd give you an example of one of my campaigns so you can perhaps give me a few tips on whether i am doing anything wrong.

We sell electronics online from laptops to cellphones and ipods. So one of my campaigns is for a popular brand(X) of laptops with 2 models "A" and "B." These are my keywords:

    best price on X laptop
    best price on X laptops
    best prices on X "A"
best prices on X "A" laptop
best prices on X "A" laptops
    best prices on X laptop
    best prices on X laptops
    best prices on laptop
    best prices on laptops
    buy X laptops
    buy X notebooks
    X "A"
    X "A" laptop
    X "A" memory
    X "A" notebook
    X "A" notebook pc
    X laptop buys
    X laptop computer
    X laptop computer sale
    X laptop computers
    X laptop deal
    X laptop deals
    X laptop for sale
    X laptop notebook
    X laptop pc
    X laptop prices
    X laptop sale
    X laptop sales
    X laptops for sale
    X laptops notebooks
    X laptops sale
    X laptops to buy
X laptops to buy on discount
    X laptops to buy online
    X notebook
    X "B"
    X "B" laptop
    X "B" notebook
    X "B" notebook pc
    great price on X laptops
    great price on X notebook
    great price on X notebooks
    great price on laptops
    great price on notebook
    great price on notebooks
    great prices on laptop

I do however have the exact same keywords as broad, phrase and exact matches. My ads are as follows:

    {Keyword:X Laptops} on Sale
    X Laptops from $752
    Best price on {Keyword:X Laptops} - Order!
    www.displayurl.com/X
    www.destinationurl.com

    Best Price on X Laptop
    X "A" Laptop
    From $752 - Best prices!
    www.displayurl.com/X
    www.destinationurl.com

    Best Price on X Laptop
    X "B" Laptop
    From $752 - Best prices!
    www.displayurl.com/X
    www.destinationurl.com

I receive tons of clicks everyday but i am hardly converting. My landing page takes me directly to the product or to the list of products for that brand.

Is there anything i am doing wrong?

What are your prices like in relation to your competitors? Use a pricecomparision site like price runner to quickly determine if you are competitive or not.

Also, it may be worht checking if there are any bad reviews oif your site that is discouraging people from making a purchase. If so, it may be worth contacting them and asking them to remove the article/post (you may have to give something away for free, but could well be worth it)

Out of interest, what is your url?

    Clicks/Revenue

    Hey Netcel,

Thank you for taking the time out. Have you had a look at our site, www.digitalplanet.co.za? perhaps if you have a look at google.co.za and search hp laptop and look at an ad of ours to see if we're doing things right? do you have any ideas/tips in terms of seo/ppc for our site? yes i did change location to south africa? perhaps if you can mail me on macdadd26@gmail.com and i'd forward a copy of our keywords? how important are negative words, i have hardly any; if i use mainly exact matches, should i still have neg words?

    Thanks brother!

    Hi Sarvs,

Are you advertising on the content network? This is something I would strongly advise against as it distorts CTR's and can waste money.

I couldn't find any HP ads, but did find a Acer ad. I noticed that the ad linked through to a listings page, where I think it would be better linked to the actual product page.

Have you thought about signing up to price comparison sites? I found www.pricecheck.co.za, and searched for a couple of laptops you sell but couldn't find you. Comparisons sites normally produce a good ROI.

As for negative keywords, I think they are very important. DO you have Google Analytics installed on your site? This would enable to you to track EXACTLY which search terms you are paying for. I review this list on a weekly basis, and make certain terms negative if they are producing a very bounce rate or as is the case sometimes - are completely irrelevant.

Let me know if you need me to clarify anything or have any further questions.

    Netcel

    Hey Netcel,

I've opted out of the Content Network from the beginning. What do you mean by listing page? do you mean i should be linking to individual products? so the best practice is to have ads linking to individual products?

We have been on comparison sites but we've stopped that for a brief while but we will be subscribing again soon. Analytics = yes - it gives me quite a ton of information. The sad thing is, our analytics shows the most clicks and revenue for (not set) so i cant see exactly which keywords are converting. some of the other keywords yes, but not the bulk of the revenue.

That is the problem with using dynamic keywords, and one I don't think you can get round. It may be worth moving away from these types of keywords. There is a program called 'PPC Generator' that I use which is very good for creating long lists of keywords very quickly, using many different permutations. I would recomend you create as many static keywords as possible - they are given more importance by Google and as such could lower your CPC.

I think linking to the indivual products would be best practise, as it means the user would have to perform one less click. This can only be a good thing.

Out of interest, what is your bounce rate for PPC traffic?

How would i check the bounce rate of ppc traffic? basically, we've only had 18 conversions over the last 3 months with over a few thousand clicks. we should be converting atleast 2 percent which we are far from doing and i am not sure why, is it because of our keywords or landing pages or bids - that is my concern, why do we have so many clicks but converting so little.

In Google Analytics, go to Traffic Soucres - Adwords - Adwords Campaigns.

This will show you all the statisics related to PPC traffic.

I would be interested in bounce rate and pages per visit, what are they?

What is the bounce rate for the rest of your site?

From that I data you could make the assumption that

-34-35% of you adwords spend is wasted as users leave immediately.

Without having access to your account, theres little more I can do/suggest. Hope I've helped

-The average user is looking at at least 4 pages once they get to your site. Why is this? You may not be directing them to the page the want.

    Well for September

    73766 Visits
    4.37 Pages/Visit
    40.03%

So right off the top of your head from all that you've seen, what do we need to do?

    - Link ads to actual product pages (In theory this should bring pages/visit down by at least 1)

-Remove dynamic keyword targeting and manuelly enter all the keywords and phrases you want to target (using PPC generator - free)

-Create small, tightly themed ad groups, and include as many keywords as possible in the ad text.

    - ensure you are targetting SA.

    - Give me some rep!!

    Thank You Netcel!

One last question, can you give me an example of a good campaign in terms of all the points you advised on: targeting keywords, targeting landing pages, targeting groups like say for example HP Laptops
