Mobile first index http://forums.seochat.com/search-engine-optimization-28/mobile-first-index-492998.html Mon, 25 Sep 2017 08:27:44 GMT Currently our website has a desktop version, and a mobile version. The mobile version is very basic and doesn't have hardly any of the content of the desktop version. So I am worried that when the mobile first index comes into place we will be negatively effected. Would it be better to turn off the mobile site at the moment until we get a responsive website made?

Thanks.

Wanting Proof http://forums.seochat.com/search-engine-optimization-28/wanting-proof-492988.html Sun, 24 Sep 2017 09:48:21 GMT Is it normal for SEO companies to say they can't give out their clients due to NDAs?

That seems absurd to me. Why should a company care about. I mean if I were a company I wouldn't give out my SEO company, but if another company finds them on their own, then why care if your site is given out. Clearly a potential new customer wants proof they know what they are doing.

Multiple links on page to the same destination http://forums.seochat.com/google-optimization-7/multiple-links-page-same-destination-492983.html Sat, 23 Sep 2017 20:42:47 GMT So on a website you might have a clickable logo which links to the homepage...

In this case there is no real anchor text (don't want to trick Google)

For SEO I might want a SEO rich text anchor back to the home page.

I have read when Google See's two links on the page going to the same destination, it will only take notice of the first one it finds in the source.

Does anyone know if this is 100% accurate?

If this is accurate, one thing you could do is force via the structure and css to have the text link appear first in the source, but appear visually further down the page.

The trouble with this approach is that its not that a clean of a solution (I like my source to match the visual running order..)

So....

1) It is better to just leave a graphic link knowing that the solution is cleaner but the link wont be seen as massively relevant?
2) Change the source so the text link is first in the source but visually much lower down, and hope Google does not see this as spammy?
3) Kill the text link as your draining juice from the other links on the page...?
4) Its unlikely to make a massive difference?

Like so:

example.com/vacation-packages/uk-tours/scotland-tours

would the fact that "tours" are in there twice be overdoing it?

What about this?
example.com/vacation-packages/uk-tours/scotland-tours/edinburgh-tours.

Thanks for your thoughts.

We used to be based in Oxfordshire (uk) and we had half a dozen location based landing pages which tended to rank top 3.

When we moved to Dorset we needed to do the same and so the amount of landing pages have increased. (Links to the pages sit in the footer.)

Since then we have lost ground on the original pages and have not made up the difference with the new.

I put this down to link dilution.

Since then we have had more inbound links supporting the site and have not yet seen any progress.

On each landing page is a setcion of upto 10 linked articles which appear, which I believe dilute the 'jucie' further.

The Title and largest H tags have the target phrase as the first part of the tag..

Whats happening.

We changed the Title so it read 'search term | Brand' for most pages this improved things but for a couple of the pages they worked better when part of the search term was repeated (the location).

With the H1 the same sort of approach was made with the same effect

We also converted the block of ten linked articles to a just a single link, again for some of the pages we had an improvement but for some they went the other way...

So....

Advice for the Title and H1 please.

Also any idea why removing links from the page might have this effect. (On the article pages all the landing pages appear in the footer and there is an 'index' page for all the articles..)

Is there some sort of minimum amount of links Google likes to see on a page? (My site on page now has less in page links than my competition.)

Analytics Issue http://forums.seochat.com/search-engine-optimization-28/analytics-issue-492960.html Thu, 21 Sep 2017 12:54:27 GMT Just looking at a new site that gets around 1000 visitors a month but the bounce rate is non-existent, about 1.2%.

I've seen this before where they have two tracking ID's on the site that cause multiple page views so you never technically get a bounce but this is a little different.

They have one code:

And another:

Having these two on the site is the only reason I can think of for the bounce rate, presumably removing this would solve the issue but I didn't think a generic code like the second one would cause this.

Shop owners with 360-degree angle? http://forums.seochat.com/water-cooler-118/shop-owners-360-degree-angle-492938.html Wed, 20 Sep 2017 07:48:47 GMT Recently, I've seen a new trend where a lot of physical stores have a website you can sort of look around with a 360-degree camera. I'm wondering if there is anything I should consider when choosing a new abbreviation or acronym for a new product? Do I have to worry about another company using the same abbreviation? what if another company that isn't in the same industry has a same model naming convention? Does that mean I would compete in the SERPs?

Hope my question makes sense. I'm trying to make sure the new product name doesn't have any SEO implications that would prevent us from gettting organic traffic.

Please let me know your thoughts.
