As we are all sat waiting for the panda 2.0 roll out I am just wondering if this is it and its happened here in the UK.

The index changed between 6:00pm & 10:00pm GMT

Looking through the top 100 listings in the index a hell of a lot of the duplicate listings have gone and been replaced with a lot of smaller companies that I have never heard of.
If this is it and that's a big assumption on my part as I cant find anything saying it has been rolled out to confirm. But I am pretty pleased as the results I am looking at looks like one hell of a lot of spamming has been removed.

Now sits and waits for our site to be de-indexed or something LOL

I've built a site for my mate, my first site (I'm a print designer of 20 years), so the code's probably a bit of a riot - but it works for him and I learnt a lot doing it.

After a bit of basic SEO I manage to get the second page of his site 'villasforrentinturkey.co.uk/villa2.html' up on page one for when searching for the terms 'villas for rent in belek'.

I did another bit of work on the site around a month ago and everything was hunky dory until Sunday when this single page appears to have dropped from google. There are still some other pages from the site indexed on google and I've tried the 'site:' search and the page appears. I've had a look in webmaster tools and everything there seems in order.

My mate is understandably a bit distressed and I'm getting that way too. I initially hoped that google was just playing silly buggers and the pages would appear again after a few days. I'm starting to wonder now if I've done something stupid and need to take some positive action.

My knowledge is pretty basic so I'm hoping that someone considerably more clued up than me can give me a few pointers.
I was also wondering why my re SEO'd homepage is still nowhere on google - but that's less pressing

Thanks

Note: fictitious names are being used.

This is quite an urgent matter for another person. There is a website which home page is, say, academicsociety.com. The web design has been done by a web development company, say, Creativity.

Entering academicsociety.com in the address bar does bring me to the website. But all the other links start with creativity.com/customers/academicsociety/.

For example, when I click on "Home" on the website, the link is creativity.com/customers/academicsociety. When I click on "About", the link is creativity.com/customers/academicsociety/about. When I click on "Contact", the link is creativity.com/customers/academicsociety/contact.

It's as if the domain name is creativity.com all the time. I think it is supposed to be academicsociety.com, isn't it? Like academicsociety.com/about, academicsociety.com/contact, and so on.

I also think that creativity.com being the domain name all the time is also the reason why the site does not appear on Google. Is it true? Maybe Creativity has configured a setting which makes the website not show up in Google search? In any case, the only way I've been able to come up with a Google search result is with "academicsociety" (with quotes; without quotes gives nothing). In addition to this, the search result description says "A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt – learn more." However, googling "Academic Society" (with quotes), which is a text found on almost every page of the website, does not give any result.

What explains the fact that all links start with creativity.com/customers/academicsociety/ instead of simply academicsociety.com/? Is it because the web design is by Creativity and academicsociety is one of its customers and there is a setting that only Creativity controls and its customers can't, regarding this issue? What can I do to make the links start with academicsociety.com/ and make the website show up in Google search?

Thank you for any help.

Hi guys,

I have to post some questions regarding my website: http://goo.gl/m60ri
This site is online since October 2012 and the traffic increased. So everything was fine.
In January 2013 we integrated some XML data and developed our own data comparison which you can find here: Quotenvergleich / TRILEDO.
We use these data also in the event articles.

Since March 2013 the traffic decreased a lot and we couldn´t find the reason for this.

Further google stoped to uplead these comparison sites to the index which is also very confusing. Only 1/3 from our sites is in the google index.
A reconsideration request showed no errors or manual spam action on our site but it seems that google dislike anything we are doing on the site.
We had a good listing for the article names but currently this is all gone. Only some of our FAQ´s sites still have good ranking.

Here are all the current and past actions from my website:

We upload articles sometimes on a daily basis but at least 2-3 times a week.
internal linking on the website (maybe too much?)
we publish new promotions and reviews
Affiliate Links (nofollow) + Banner Placements
Integration of XML Data (automatic content) but still a very good feature - currently we set all automatic content pages to "noindex" unfortunately without any positive effect - the traffic decreased even more.
some linkexchance with quality sites with related contend
we have reduced the amout of words in the articles for some time (around 200, sometimes less) currently we are back to very detailed articles but with no positive effect. (btw: we write unique content)
We also launched a new website called http://goo.gl/F2ix3 where we also integrated our comparison feature (maybe this is duplicate content for google?)
Further there is one unimportant website wettbonusonline.com - Bonus, Bookies, Vergleich, Sportwetten, Buchmacher which is possibly over optimized and contains too much links to our main project?

I think thats all for now. We try to provide good quality conent articles with some good additional features like the data comparison but it seems that google dislike some parts or currently the complete website.

Something is definitly wrong and therefore after many updates and trial and errors I have to post these questions here in the forum.

I look foward to any reply that could help to sort out the problem on my site.

Thanks a lot!

Hi there! This is my first post on here, and am as n00b as they can get in SEO. So you'll have to excuse me if I seem a little dense at first.

Situation:

The corporation I am working for is undergoing a rebrand effort soon, which means our domain name is changing, and so we have a lot of SEO / Redirection issues to look out for.

My manager wanted to know if we could take the rebranding opportunity to rename/url-rewrite/redirect our older, non-WordPress sections, which were not given easily remembered urls.

Example:

We have URLs for our amenities which might look something like...

domainname.com/visiting/amenities/food_drink/starbucks

Though it is a "friendly-url", it is not as concise as domainname.com/starbucks. From my knowledge of SEO and URL Rewrite rules, I see the following solutions

1) If I set up a URL rewrite rule in IIS, I can get domainname.com/starbucks to rewrite as the actual path, but then both URLs are accessible via browser.

Would Google count these URLs as duplicate content, and knock my ranking down?

2) I could set up a 301 redirect if domainname.com/starbucks is detected. The downside to this is that the concise URL does not remain, so it's not as "pretty". The upside is that Google won't detect duplicate content, and the current indexing of the original URL will not be affected.

3) I could actually move the web content to /starbucks, and have the original /visiting/amenities/food_drink/starbucks perform a 301 redirect to /starbucks. This would keep the concise URL, and not count as duplicate content. Best of both worlds. The downside would be that this option would require the most work and testing since we might have absolute links to fix.

Do these three options sound about right? Am I forgetting/leaving out anything here as far as solutions go?

I was asked the other day from a client about having his keywords within the URL, he basically had a corporate site up and running that listed all of his services as a whole, no keywords were relevant in the URL.

I suggested having a domain with website design within the domain and use this as a company trading as his corporate name, he then said he had heard Google would not like this.

I expained how can Google penalise a domain that is a company name, for expamle lets say you were called weddingphotographer.com and this was your trading name.

Google cannot penalise you for having that name, or having a domain with that name.
