I suggest X-Cart is good as its compliance with W3 standards provides emphasis on the website content rather than on the code which is beneficial for SEO-related opportunities.

i always liked www.e-junkie.com; easily compatible to paypal and any other merchant payment system. It also lets you create a very custom shopping cart with shipping customizzations as well. Product pages and more. Definitely a good shopping cart worth looking at. I wanna say it was like $7 mnth for 20 products.

If you're using Magento, you can try the Ultimate SEO Suite from aheadWorks.

I have used Magento, custom built scripts and platforms that I have coded single handedly and in teams and I have used old scripts like oscommerce, amazon webstore, cutecart, presto, cartkeeper... I think the only ones I would try excluding paid channels are opencart - a free open source ecommerce script with a easy admin panel, easy template system and its like wordpress with so many people contributing plugins and extensions and there is a good future for opencart...

the third party solution channels I mean to say:

    volusion
    ibm websphere
    venda

Opencart (free) is currently what I recommend as its very powerful and simply executed. it is built well to handle mutli platform use for amazon, ebay etc

Voting for Prestashop here - has all the feature most of small ecommerce shops would need. Fast and easy to customize too!

For opensource, I think most of them are SEO friendly, magento, opencart, prestashop etc.

For hosted solution, I think Miiduu.com and Bigcommerce.com are the best.
