Two letter .com domain name.
Hello,
I got the chance to buy a two letter domain name, but I am not sure if it worth paying $1500. The name suits a planned webshop perfectly, but since I have such little experience I am not sure if it woth paying that much. After all 1500$ is a lot of money. I will really apperciate all quick answers, because I have to let the seller know as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hey $1500 for a two dollar name is not that much, when it comes to brand building. Now since you are saying it will suits a webshop, try hitting webshops if anyone is interested in buying it..

I really depends on the extension...
$1500 for a two letter .com is a steal, but it may be expensive for other extensions... Do you mind telling us what extesion it is? I've been dealing with domain names as a hobby for a couple of years now, so if you want to PM me the name I can try to get a couple of "pros" to do a quick appraisal of it..

What about the whole fact that two-letter domains are being reserved?
This is listed here: http://res-dom.iana.org/ Listing below for convience: ---BEGIN LISTING In the .com, .net, and .org top-level domains (TLDs), various domain names are reserved. These names are reserved from initial registration, but to the extent they are already registered the existing registrant may renew them. The reserved labels are in three groups, as described below: A. Labels Reserved at All Levels. Within .com, .net, and .org, the following labels are reserved at the second level: <snip> Other names: All single-character labels All two-character labels The reservation of the above names is implemented by showing the names in the above group that are not registered to an existing registrant as sponsored under the registrar name "Reserved-Internet Assigned Numbers Authority". ---END LISTING Doesn't that mean that two letter domains can't be transferred to another owner? Reading the letter of the law if you will "extent they are already registered the existing registrant". Say Bob wants to buy a two-character .com domain from Sue (i.e. the "existing registrant"). Bob may be able to do so but he won't be able to renew the domain right?!? Because he wasn't/isn't the "existing registrant". Unless that statement allows transfer of ownership from one party to another?!? Really I'm asking because I'm thinking about purchasing a two-character domain but don't know what the implications are because of this "reservation" by the ICANN authority. Can I buy the domain and then renew that domain myself? Or does "Sue" have to renew it? Or is it renewable at all? Please Help! Thank You. :-) |

Let me rephrase that!
Since that might not have been clear let me restate my question:
I'm looking at purchasing a two character .com domain from an individual (for example: a3.com) for my business. I have a question about it before I make the purchase though. I read that certain .com domains will be reserved after they expire at this location: http://res-dom.iana.org/ The document clearly indicates two character .com domains like the one I am interested in will be reserved. The document states: "These names are reserved from initial registration, but to the extent they are already registered the existing registrant may renew them." That means when I read it that only the existing registrant (i.e. the current owner of the domain) can renew the domain. Does that mean if I purchase the domain from the current owner than I will not be able to renew the domain later? Or perhaps ownership of the domain can not even transfer hands in the first place? Would someone please tell me EXACTLY what rules apply here? Am I out of luck? Or is there in fact something I can do? I even looked at the ICANN website and didn't find any answers to my question there. If you don't know the answer to my question can you point me in the right direction? Thanks. |

confusion?
Actually *I* am the one asking the question I picked up this old thread. Maybe I should have started a new thread?
