Selling music online
This is not really related to SEO but I can't find the answer after a couple of hours of searching online so I figured some of you smart people in here could help.
Does anyone know where I can get information on the legalities of having an online music store?
My husband is super passionate about a particular genre of music. After doing some keyword research I realize that we could be quite successful at selling music in this area. Much of the music we would be selling would be indie artists and so affiliate sales (i.e. Amazon) would not work.
We're thinking about selling CDs as well as digital downloads. We want to do everything legally and pay the artists a good royalty.
What I can't find out is what happens when we sell tracks digitally...how does the record label get their cut?
Does anyone know? Or can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I think first of all you must be register with a performing rights society, a digital licensor and make friends with a music biz lawyer Then find the online retailer to process your online music. vancouver internet marketing

Wow, that was weird timing that this thread got bumped up again. My husband and I were just talking again about his dream to have a blog about Christian music artists. At some point we're going to work on a site together.

Here is a store that sells music and has an affiliate program:
http://www.cduniverse.com/partner/partner.asp?style=music
Also if you make an account with Linkshare you can affiliate with Itunes from there.
If you do this you will enter to the affiliate marketing world. You will just redirect visitors to the right site via your site ( affiliate link ). From there sales made by your visitors will be credited to you and you will earn money.

Totally agree with GiffordBruno. Ask for some lawyer friends is necessary.

There are many online music stores that fulfill your needs and requirements. You can browse through the websites that give you enormous variety and also give a discounts on your favorite music CD's and DVDs. There are various online music download websites that give you an option to download your favorite tracks. The songspk.com and youtube.com have good music stores where you can easily download your favorite music.
