Paypal site failure
I don't like to post negative stuff... but here is something that should be said....
I switched the shopping cart on one of my websites to paypal about a month ago, motivated by the fact that they no longer required buyers to become paypal members. It worked great at first, but a couple weeks ago my cumulative sales line for "through the cart sales" started to go flat when traffic, adsense and affiliate converstions were unwaivering. Paypal started failing frequently on Friday after a software upgrade. Since Friday my sales from that website are down 80% at least and I am getting email from website visitors with quotations like "tried to order but am leaving your site because it is broken"... "your website sucks!" Anyone who has a paypal shopping cart on their website is losing major income and getting a black eye from their customers. If you search google news for "paypal" you will see stories about this on geek.com, fool.com, computerworld.com and most of the active news boards. In my opinion, the reports on those sites are too kind to paypal. This is one of the worst cases of website failure that I have ever seen.

I'm not thrilled about it either, but really, these things happen. The same kind of thing has happened to other major payment services such as authorize.net etc. in the past. s*it happens. it'll get fixed.

DD's right. Authorize.net was down for two days last month, costing several businesses I know a lot of revenue. Authorize powers a lot of huge sites and the fact that they don't have a good backup system in place and can be down for as many as 48 hours is horrifying.
I would expect Paypal/Ebay to rectify the situation and put in some backup - Ebay has typically been very good about fixing even the biggest of server problems fast, so hopefully that professionalism will spread to Paypal. |

I understand that stuff happens but it amazes me that they have been down for four days. I am glad that I didn't put paypal on any other sites.

unfortunately, it happens to the best of them.
We use Worldpay and they've been having some issues recently as well |
