PayPal fraud, need advise please
Hi everyone its been a long time since i have been here.
I need some advice....
I am selling memberships to a large website as a reseller. The deal is I have to buy the memberships up front and for a discounted rate and sell them on with my markup percentage
Things have been going well until this weekend...
Since Friday my sales saw a huge increase with purchasers using PayPal,(I have 3 payment processors, PayPal is one them). But I have seen a pattern emerge. Each payment through PayPal was from an unregistered PayPal account. 95% were from the USA. and 90% were using gmail accounts for their email. I got concerned with what seemed to be a pattern emerging and decided to call payPal to voice my concerns. My call was re-routed to the Philippines and I told the girl of my concerns and she told me not to worry because PayPal has so much security in place and that because the PayPal accounts were unregistered that my customers were purchasing accounts without signing up to PayPal for an account she said they were real purchases. I told her I still wasn't really convinced and that she should keep a record of our conversation.
Well 2 days later, I am seeing a few charge backs from unauthorized credit cards and think this is going to escalate . I have my suspicions that its all stemming from Vietnam (no big surprise there). I am getting names like e.g. David Smith and after I locked his account I get an email from yahoo in Vietnam asking me why is my account locked.
What really makes me angry is PayPal simply reverse the payment. I loose out because I have to buy the accounts up front. And because I am selling non physical goods I am not covered by their seller protection. Even though I called them and voiced my concerns and they give me the green light. They processed the payment, when my concerns become a reality, they don't want to know. They should have some responsibility.
Can anybody recommend a way that I can verify payment from PayPal before I send out the account details? I was thinking maybe a telephone call to the customer or something along those lines.
Now it seems i have to do PayPal's work. I hardly ever get charge backs from my other processors PayPal is the most insecure by miles
