Not sure of any free sites, but basic theming is quite simple and inexpensive. Let me know if you decide to go the custom route.

before you set up your shop I would checkout ZenCart it is a fork of osCommerce with much better code and has regular releases. I use osCom for awhile but switched over and they have a built in templating system which makes it pretty easy to make a custom look...

The source code is free... templates tend to cost $50 - surely $50 isn't a major expense. http://www.creloaded.com/links.php?lPath=2 |

osCommerce is a good basis for an eCommerce cart. It is lean and simple. So I 100% recommend it for any person trying to DIY.
So before you go Zen or CRE, check how they skin them. I don't deal in Zen much so I don't remember but CRE uses a template system called BTS to implement the design. So you don't want to get involved in that unless you really want to upgrade your programming skills (CRE is really targetted at developers churning our sites easily and has more features than you ned in that respect. It is not really a DIY solution.) If you are looking for a loaded version I always recommend oscMax - far more business oriented. (But I can't remember if they use BTS either). Keep away from BTS for now. There are free oscommerce templates. Just google it. But they are what they are - cheap. You can also buy cheap ones on eBay - watch out for breach of copyright. You can buy them in templatemonster too. Watch out for breach of coding standards. Buying a template is buyer beware. So many of them have managled the code making it hard to do any upgrades and possibly introduced bugs. We've fixed enough of them for customers to know. Templates are also deceptive implying they have features that are not in fact there. If you are serious about your site then learn to skin it yourself or get a professional to do it. Otherwise you'll find yourself doing it again later and possibly having to start from scratch. If you are going into business then what better to spend you money on than your store? Good luck |
