You need to learn from others, here on SEOChat and sites like Cre8asite, and learn by experience, too. Start a website and learn by applying what you pick up on the forums. Be Patient!

i guess one advice i could give you is that you should get into a business that you love or really interested in.
then create a design and content for your site. also read a lot of SEO techniques (the good ones) such as those that you can find here in the forum and in the internet. then do link building. and constant SEO. that's what i learned here. |

Welcome to the forum, It seems that you have a desire to go somewhere, but you're not sure where yet. You must decide which type of online business you are going to learn about and then start from there. You need to have a destination in mind before you start down the path that you are looking for. Online businesses take hard work and determination just like any other business, so I would suggest you thoroughly research any kind of business that you consider before getting involved in it. There are a lot of ways to quickly lose money online, and if something seems too good to be true, it definitely is! When you do decide what business you're going to try, of course this forum is the best place to learn about how to optimize your website for the search engines, etc... I wish you the best in your endeavors. Faith |

First you need to know the products you are interested to sell and look for a supplier. You can also build your own website to promote your product and join some forums to have more exposure of your products.

Build a website or two and start experimenting. Don't delay. The web gets more difficult each year and the barrier to entry gets higher. Claim turf now and get into a position that you can defend rather than one you must attack.

I agree with EGOL in that you should start experimenting right away. Find a cheap webhost (you can get great hosting in places under $7 a month) and start a website that you can try different techniques on. I recommend that you pick a topic in which you're knowledgeable and that you create an educational site in that area (educational sites are somewhat easier to promote, and the standard of design/functionality isn't too high). Aim to promote this website and get visitors to it. In the process you will learn:
- how to get hosting, how to manage a server - web design and development / how to outsource this - content creation and analytics analysis - promoting your site (SEO/other methods) Once you're comfortable with your first site, use the exact same approaches and people you've worked with in order to start a commercial site. This way all of the big problems will be worked out on your "test" site, which doesn't have to be perfect. |

For online business you should have knowledge about many online marketing places. Before that you should have Good knowledge about SEO to make your site eligible for online marketing. of course we will not spend money for that which we can get free. and you can get free traffic with the help of SEO that is different issue if you are higher for some on to do that behalf of you. SEO can bosst your site initially without any cost if you doing it your self. After SEO you should start marketing idea like Search engine marketing, social media marketing, Press release marketing, Advertising, affiliate marketing, article marketing and many more. I would like to say that for initial start you should start blog and experiment all the thing still you get success. |

I started an ecommerce site in 2003. It is now my sole source of income.
I agree - get a site started for the purpose of locking in your domain name and getting the aging process started. As far as advice - forget for a moment your business is online and concentrate on the basic issues confronting any new business. The "online" part is just your sales channel. What are you bringing to the market that fills a need and sets you apart from all the others? Do you have the capital to start this business and maintain it while you grow? I could go on - just read and research and remember that being online does not change any of the basic fundamentals of starting a business. Ed |

practice practice practice. oh and don't take any money away from what your websites are making. Just keep it in a bank account somewhere un-touched.
I basically built about 10 websites over the course of two years getting better and better everyone. None of them made much money (maybe $1 a day). But then over the course of a couple years that really added up to a nice chunk of change in the bank. Then i finally built a site that actually made some "real" money ($1000+ a month). At that point i upgraded my hosting to a dedicated server and had the websites pay for that, but still just put the rest in savings. After another year i had quite a bit of money in the bank to invest and have been able to make loads of money on top of that money. So it kind of snowballs if you do it this way. And I find the whole thing to be a lot of fun, so it's not really like work. it's kind of something i do for fun away from work as a hobby. Obviously most hobbies cost money, but this one pays me (and now pays me really really well :-) In contrast you could put that $1 a day or whatever in your own bank account and it probably wouldn't be likely to do anything for you. That's just my advice based on what has worked very well for me. |
