Guidelines for Commercial Website Design

Does anybody went across of guidelines how to make your website commercially successful ?
I am referring my questions to the design and e-commerce aspects of the site (not about search engine or PPC placements).

Thanks.

Hi again.

I can not believe, that nobody went across a forum or similar discussing issues like where to place internal [buy now] banner or other idea how a successful website should be organized.

Thanks for any ideas.

I have not come across such an article, if this is what you are looking at maybe you could compile such and article as you do your research on this matter.

Here are some items to get things started:
Do not make top banner to large - this leads to the general rule avoid forcing the user to scroll through meaningless content.
Do not make images to large (in file size), assume your user will not have a fast connection speed.
Make the font size readable but not too large and the colour of the font in contrast with the background.
Put contact information links on your page and make sure there are text links at the bottom.
Keep the fonts consistent on the page for good visual look
Make sure the focus os on the information you want them to see, do not loose the message in clutter on the page.
Keep the colours on the page complimentary.
Include a site map.
Make any toolbar/link menus easy to follow and do not repeat them unnesesarilly.
Pick a page size for your layout that meets your target customers typical machine.

Some help

Don't assume people know as much as you do about your product and or services. Make sure print is easy to read. Make sure it is easy to navigate around. Keep it logical
