Building Links to all products in your cart
I guess Im looking for a strategy or a place to start building backlinks for a shopping cart with 100's of products. Where did you start and why? Where did you find places to build these links? I noticed quite a few pages in supplemental results and I am sure it has to due with links and or URL's, which will be re-written soon. So, to approach the links issue, I am not sure where to start building links for the products. Is there any rhyme or reason as to where you began?

Tough question...
Things I would look at: 1. Unique URLs 2. Unique Meta info 3. Unique Content 4. Allow for user input to help Unique content 5. Internal linking structure can help leverage pages out of the supplements 6. Look at external product listing that provide deep links to the site that can help increase traffic and possible rankings. Hope it helps, -Flat4 |

Sorry didn't provide examples...
For the #6 Think of sites that you can pay for your inventory to be displayed and linked to from.. and not 100% from and SEO perspective but as an added bonus, in any case they can be very beneficial. Google Base MSN shopping shop.com... -Flat4 |

Would an E-bay store fall into this category? |

Yeah those were not the best examples for SEO purposes even though they could drive sales. It was more to show the idea. Look for these type of systems and when you find one use a spider simulator like: http://www.se-spider.com/. Run sample pages through the spider simulator and see if they provide external links that you can leverage as relevant deep links into the site.
As far as eBay goes... again its always a good idea to get your info in front of as many users as possible (dunno on the ROI for that example), but for SEO purposes this may not be the best along with their falling out with G.. http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=5380 I'll keep my eyes out and if I find any one in particular I will post. Thanks, -Dave |

I think you are up against it trying to get backlinks at product level.
100 products and how many backlinks to make any impact? It is more effective for eCommerce site to do more internal link building to products and try and raise the PR of pages like the index and category pages using external backlinks. But some good ways to get backlinks at product level is to target social networking. I see a lot of "natural" backlinks coming to my sites from social networks like myspace and blog sites. Why not look for people who blog about what this site sells? If you reveal the industry I could probably be more specific. And while I hate to say it here while driving more traffic to an eCommerce site is not a bad idea focus on converting the traffic you have could be a better ROI. So why not put some energy into looking into why they come but don't buy? |

Very valid points but what i am still not understanding is myspace and how to use it from a business sense. I posted a question in another thread about myspace but how can myspace be used as you suggest?
Right now the site is not bringing in much traffic, which I'm aware of. Moreover, the site is only being found by entering the company name into the site (in most cases). I am in the process of building page theme and re-defining the title tags, H1 tags and creating content around the keywords being targeted; along with some reasons to retain visitors and finally building links. I think I have a handle on what needs to be done. My objective is to get people there and keep them there to give the site an opportunity to sell. Hopefully I'm on the right track and taking the correct path....? So to sum it up, I dont think the right traffic is coming in. I dont think the site currently has a chance to sell anything b/c it is not attracting buyers b/c there is little or no SEO done. Hopefully in time my efforts will pay off and enough traffic will stream through to where I can focus on why people arent buying. I have to get them there first...haha Thanks for giving me a heads up on some great points. By the way, for the future, what should I look at as to why visitors dont buy? What aspects can I focus on and look into in order to make these determinations? Last edited by Lb1878 : August 1st, 2007 at 09:46 PM. |
