Im in the same situation starting soon, my plan is to get a large sheet of paper and research each of the popular carts ( they are normally popular for a reason) and make a list of pro's and con's for each one for the business and visual approach *I am are looking for.
If I am then stuck between a couple as to which one to use I will come back here and ask for peoples opinions on usability / known bugs to give me a better idea of which one to choose.
I'd suggest you do the same, someone here telling you which one to use is like someone telling you what brand of teabags to buy, it all depends on personal taste

Add Bluepark.co.uk to that list as well. I have moved from ekm to volusion to bluepark this year. Bluepark is excellent, the only downside is template choice, but you can always get one built for you.

I recommend Volusion software if you are interested in an all-in-one SaaS solution. Fully optimized for search. Been using them for years. It's not perfect in terms of unlimited capabilities, but it's fairly extensive and the time I've saved to focus on the business far outweighs the limitations of the software, IMO.

XCart is the one we recommend most of the time. It's main advantages are:
- Open Source (php and MySQL)
- one off payment (not monthly)
- very large community of users to bounce ideas/issues off
- the code is flipped upside down which makes it excellent for SEO

Hello!
Our company works with CS-Cart shopping cart system and develops modifications for this system for several years and absolutely happy about it. CS-Cart can be even compared to Magento, it has lots of features necessary for an online store business but much easier to understand and work with than Magento.
Have a look at our portfolio to see how CS-Cart online shops can look like www.alt-team.com/our-portfolio.html
Kind regards

I prefer EasyStoreHosting which offers so many great features and supports multilanguage.
I have tried it, and it genuinely works.
EasyStoreHosting offers e-commerce hosting without any extra charge and the best thing is that provide “technical support service” free of cost. So you have to do anything by yourself, just shoot a mail to them, they will do it for you.
The most important thing to do is to figure out what you need in an e-commerce system. Once you figure all that out, now you have something to research. You go and test demos of all the products then decide it.
