Joomla meta keywords for menu items, global site and articles
I have a Joomla site with a few menu items that are representing different categories in which are articles. There are a lot of keywords for all this. Do I have to fill all of these with data or maybe some of them are not that important from SEO point of view?
For example:
Site keywords: news, online
Menu item (Politics for example) keywords: news, politics
Category (Politics): news, politics
Article: war, crime, law...

What Joomla version is it? Are you using any SEO component?

Joomla 1.6.
I am not using any component (tried with sh404, but it messed up my url's, so I decided to uninstall it)

Try the component RSSEO you can SEO each page and it gives you little hints where you can improve SEO, it will also generate a sitemap that you can upload to google or yahoo or where ever you like.

When it comes to meta tag management RSSEO is definitly the best way to go. It is designed for that and handling the redirections and automatic keyword injections

Thanks for your answers, I know that it has been a long time, but I just saw those answers.
I just wanted to know do I have to fill out all keyword fields (for menus, categories and articles), or the last one (articles) are the only one that count.

Thanks Test-ok, your answer is of great value to the thread and to your daily post quota. Everyone who is facing the same problem can come here to read your kind words of wisdom and solution to the problem. Do you have to say something regarding my question or you're here for the argue?
Anyway, the answers above were suggesting me to buy SEO plugin, but I don't want to do that, this website is something I do for fun and don't want to spend money on it.
I have just reseted my password (which I forgot because I registered on this forum if your statement is true - 14 months ago, to solve this "meta keyword" issue) and found out (yes, 14 months later) that there is a post of mine (the only one on this forum) that was left without answer. I totally forgot about the issue I was facing with, so it's still unsolved. I googled for the solution with no luck. If someone here knows the answer, I'll be glad to hear from them.
My question was: Do I have to enter meta-keywords for menu items and categories "attached" to those items in Joomla 1.6, or filling just one of them is a better solution? Or neither of them, just those in the articles? I don't want google to see that as keyword stuffing.

hey irenamarkovic,
I don't think it'll matter too much about the categories so long as you're very specific on the articles. It's been a while since i've used the core Joomla meta tag fields though.
Can you share the link to your site?
