This all depends on what you want it for. You are going to find people that prefer wordpress, and others that prefer Joomla,

They are both popular for a reason, if you are doing a blog then maybe wordpress is better, having never used Joomla though i cannot really comment on my preferences.

Setup your main site in Joomla and start working on the content, create good quality content.
In a sub directory, or a sub domain, setup your blog using WordPress.
I disagree. You can also set up a blog with Joomla... Why would you want to have to deal with 2 CMS when one will do perfectly well?

    "Better" is subjective...

Like ChillDot said, it depends what you are building.

A Blog? A Shopping site with a shopping cart? A Social site? A small business site? A personal home page?

If you don't give more details you'll be unlikely to get any meaningful answers.

As it seems you are new to cms you would want to try wordpress which i assume is simplest of other CMS. It also depends on how much programming you know like example, html, java, php etc,.

Both are nice, but I personally prefer using a website builder like Exai.com that uses a WYSIWYG cms and is much easier to use than either of those. It also has built in SEO which is a plus..

Yes, I've built multiple websites using Exai.com and that's why I recommended that specific website builder. I explored the option of using a software like Wordpress or Joomla and found that it was a more complicated solution than what I was looking for. Using EXAI's website builder, I built my websites quickly and easily and I personally recommend this solution.

I would 100% say that you should be using Wordpress. It has a much larger community so there's going to be a ton more available to you when it comes to themes, plugins and finding people to customize it for you.

WordPress is the most used CMS. People are used to its features (for example RSS feed for comments under posts etc). which may not be implemented in other content management systems. But it really depends on the site type that you want to build.
