Question Why We Need RSS

respected SEOs,
Plz tell me-
What is RSS? in descriptive way
why we need RSS?
How it is created?
How it works? i mean for Search engines what role it plays?
Can press release, blogs, sitemap be created in rss?

and also tell me in advance whatever u know about RSS more than my questions.

By the way.. do you know tha it's a good technic to use RSS in order to spread the links (with the keywords) since your RSS possible to retranslate on the other sites.

Nobody technically needs it, but it does make life soooo much easier when you can easily subscribe to an RSS feed to see the latest content updates of a site
