Whats so special with blogs?

I mean why is it important to use blog to otimize your site? or is it important? Wouldnt it be the same to add the articles to your site? Can someone explain to my I shuld bother making a blog and how to do it right? I mean is it worth the effort?

Also some of the extras that make promotion easier like RSS feeds, trackbacks, etc. And personalization options for viewers to build a community and create a real discussion.

You can do this with a "regular" site but it takes a lot of scripting that blogs come with by default or by adding some plugins that just take a couple clicks. Very "plug and play" as it were.

Blogs such as Blogger and Wordpress are also designed very well and generally rank quite highly in the search engines.
