Updated blog/rss feed/ping info

I am trying to become a bit more organised in my approach to blogging, submitting my rss feeds and pinging.

I have searched quite a lot on this forum, but a lot of the info which has been dished out is now a bit out of date, with links that don't work etc.

So, can anyone help me with the ultimate step by step guide to maximising your blogging (valid as of June 2008)?

Step 1
Create you blog (Doh!) and start posting

Step 2
You need to ping everytime you post to your blog. On one of my blogs, I ping the following everytime I post:

http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates
http://bulkfeeds.net/rpc
http://ping.myblog.jp
http://ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
http://bblog.com/ping.php

However, on another one of my blogs I ping the following:

http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2

http://xping.pubsub.com/ping/

Is this second list necessary? Is it overkill? I found both lists on this forum and I don't know which is the best thing to do - keep it short and sweet or long like the second example. Am I missing any key addresses?

Step 3
Submit your blog to blog directories.

Again, following advice from this forum, I have started down never ending lists of blog directories, only to find many no longer exist, or have stopped accepting submissions. Is there anywhere where you can find a definitive blog directory list? Is it worth submitting to all? And (ahem) is there an easier way of doing this such as some form of decent submission software (or is that counted as Black Hat)?

Step 4
Submit your blog rss feed to various feed directories and sites.

Searching for sites where you can submit your rss feed returns an overwhelming number of sites. Again, is there somewhere where you can go for a definitive list?

Also, am I right in thinking that this is the crucial bit, because once your feed is out there, other sites will start picking it up (as long as there is useful content on your blog) and your one way links will start increasing dramatically?

I am approaching this from the view of "useful blogs with useful content" not spammy blogs, and I would be grateful for any pointers.

Thanks...

Step 3
Submit your blog to blog directories. => It is the good way to get the BackLink from a lot of IPs. (Which is better than a Lot of Domains) But You should be consider about the success of the submit
Like =>
Submit to 100 WebDir =? Approve 10 WebDir => Success = 10%
