Spammer leaving comments. Can I...

2 part question about Comments:

I have this toad that seems to think I need to increase the size of my penis. Since I don't have a penis and he is so annoying, could I take out his crappy spam line, leave his e-mail and put in my own comment like "You are a Phone Goddess".
Does the Google gods know that I have tampered with the comments? I know people leaving comments helps with keywords and all that but will it still count as anything. Ranking or Keyword search?

And... what is to keep jokers from padding their own comments? Whats the point of having people visit my site to leave comments when I can just pad my own.

I spend alot of time getting guys to leave me feedback and was hoping it was not in vain.

Just delete all inappropriate comments.

An inappropriate comment is anything "off-topic" therefore if they are not "commenting of the opening post" their comments don't apply.

You can always edit out words and make it totally out of context to your benefit. Liberal and conservative political hacks do that all the time.

Delete them....

If you like, moderate the comments first... Choose those that have good sense and disregard those NONSENSE..

I'd say try not to edit comments TOO much, but hey it IS your blog, right? You're free to do what you like. I don't edit comments for the most part, I just delete stupid ones. If you have WordPress, install Akismet and Bad Behavior plugins, and that will take care of a lot of your comment problems.

You can edit it, but it's not like he is ever going to see it or care. It was likely done by an automated program. You weren't being singled out. I would just delete it and beef up your comment spam detection. Plenty of plugins for that.

Just delete it. As a Phone Goddess, taking any other notice of or altering a comment from someone who is not perceptive enough to notice that phone goddesses don't have penises (penii?) is clearly beneath your dignity. ;-)

I would just delete it. I don't think you are that needy for comments.

Hey if you got time, go for it. I personally find the captcha plugin very useful for eliminating this crap. Since installing I haven't had ONE automated submission and only 2-3 manual crap in the past 6 months.

ADDED: If you want to edit the comment to look like more people are active I wouldn't worry about it. I own the seo site in my sig and it gets a very good amount of traffic yet comparatively low comments. I get alot more emails then comments but the info on the site is whats important not the comments.
