Lightbulb RSS Feeds + "nofollow" = Stronger SERPs

I have pages optimized for geographic KWs and I added RSS feeds as a courtesy to our viewers to keep them updated on local industry news.

What I was noticing is my pages with feeds would change postitions almost hourly in the SERPs. It seems no matter how tight I make the parameters some articles are just more relevant than others.

I added the Meta "nofollow" tag to my pages with RSS feeds after reading Cutts talk about the dangers of RSS feeds in his blog. He mentioned that you could accidently link to a bad neighborhood and get penalized.

That would suck.

Well, by adding the Meta nofollow tag, those pages have settled down and about half are holding steady in the "top 10". A few more are "top 20" and climbing. And the last couple are lost *somewhere*.

I recomend using the nofollow Meta tag for your pages with RSS feeds. It much less of a headache and you don't have to worry if today is the day the site gets penalized because of a bad link.
