I got an idea for my blog i want to run by you all

Alright, so i run a automotive website so naturally my blog (performancepartszone.com) is automotive in nature. Im having trouble coming up with fresh content weekly, forget daily, but my blog gets my site decent traffic to my sales site now based upon the # of hits the blog gets. I guess in short, it has a good conversion rate and almost everything i blog about gets a top ten rank for some keywords.

Anyways, i had an idea for traffice i wanted to run by you all to see if you all thought it was worth the time.

Im starting a Readers Ride of the Day. People can send me pics and spec sheets on their cars and everyday ill post pics, spec sheet, and any story associated with the car. I figure this will give me daily fresh content with keywords related to my site.
Does this sound like a good plan?

Thanks
Justin

This is a great idea... if you can optimize their stories for relevant keywords. If this can be done then go for it. I think that it would draw some traffic on its own because folks would see what type of custom work other people have done. You might even get links from shops who did some of the work on your featured cars.

Thanks. While i was thinking of ways to draw hits, i rmemebered noticing that tons of people on forums, post links to wherever their car is posted/written about. Im a member of so many automotive forums that coming up with about 265 cars a year shouldnt be hard and i can get some many good keywords and deep links out of it without straining my already busy self trying to think of fresh content.
Ive already got 20 or so cars and spec sheets emailed to me and i think im going to take this live monday. Ill let you all know if i start seeing a steady surge in traffic.

Every now and then a good idea hits me. Im still a newbie to all this, but im hoping we see some good things from this and my boss is happy with the results.

Another advantage to it, is that essentially, others are doing it for me, all i have to do is post it, i dont have to spend as much time writing as i used to

Well, i started posting the cars yesterday. The response has been good so far, people have emailed me about 25 cars and spec sheets and i think as word spreads i should start getting many more. Anyway, my traffic was way up on my blog for yesterday because of this. The search engines havent picked up yesterdays blog, but the buzz throughout the forums was outstanding. Im hoping if i carefully select the vehicles to space out the different models and such, i can keep my link up high in most all the enthusiasts forums. I dont know for sure, but thats what im going to try and do.
Now to get the SEs to pick up the blog- anyone got any link ideas for my blog?

wow, as i believe you came to ask here for advice - having it shared here is really great of you and people will realise that with a little bit of creative thinking one can find ways of increasing traffic to their websites instead of throwing away money in irrelevant matters with no potential ROI.
good luck to you

Well, ive learned so much from here that if i can post an idea and others can use it to help their sites, it not only makes me feel good to have an idea that others like and would use, but it lets me know that im learning SEO and Ecommerce Development. I love what i do and if it wasnt for this forum, i wouldnt know 1/10 of what i know or use in my daily work.

Sounds like a good idea to get users coming back or signing up for your RSS feed.

I just posted the following in the blog to encourage people to spread the links around

"Ive decided that whichever Ride of the Day participant gets the most comments left about his/her vehicle, ill make it the Ride of the Month. Ill send the ROTM winner a Injected Performance Tshirt and offer them a lifetime of discounts on any products Injected Performance sells. I will also give them a spot on the Injected Performance Gallery and create an article like write-up to be submitted to all the automotive E-zines.

Start leaving those comments and if your car is a contender, post the links and get your friends to leave comments. Note: Any comments deemed offensive will not be approved for public view."

If i post 20 cars a month, hopefully most of them will spread the links trying to get the votes. I dont know, this is new to me, but ill keep you all updated.
Any suggestions? Or is anyone a member of any auto sites or forums that they could help me out with a link on. I still need tons of cars to post.

i feel you should keep a minimum number of comments before you go about giving away the discounts. lets say around 35-50.
also you can introduce a reputation system for these contenders to help facilitate competition within the contenders themselves [instead of just the contenders and the non contenders]
keep a system of rating of lets say 5 stars, or a reputation system based on points.
5 star system would look good for your site, point system would make it seem like a forum.
