best way to circulate articles on the web?

Hey guys I would like to know the best way to get content based articles circulated and listed on other websites. Is there an automated process or do I just submit them all individually to each site?

Additionally what is the best way to do this? I mean should I allow only a link back to my site for the article or should I allow others to publish the article (not seeing the benefit of that to me). If I do allow them to publish should I include ads throughout the article?

Sorry for all the questions but I would like to know about others experiences. I only have a few articles on my website at this stage but was wanting to increase that very soon. I want to find the easiest process that will get the best results in advertising and backlinks etc.

Thanks for the reply champ but I was mainly trying to ask what is the best way to got about it. I mean do I just add them to every directory or is there an easier way - also do I should I allow them to publish? what are the pro's and con's ??? Sorry I have never done this before...

There are softwares that automate the all process; there is the solution to post at every directory and forget about them or contact personally all site owner that has a site where you'll be intersted of a link to you (same niche, etc).

From my point of view an ideal article should have at least two links to your site, surounded by text, with proper anchor text to two different pages of your site (let's say the main page and the main conversion page).
