    yahoo supports virtual URL?

    Hi,

We r using htaccess to make virtual url.

I found that if we r using url that physical does not exist yahoo will get 404 error when reading the page.

and so it will not able to crawl any new pages.

Is it true? If then how i can solve it as i have number of pages in google and i cant change url.

    Regards,
    Smith

i guess by virtual url you mean mod rewrite

if you're using mod rewrite then spiders will be getting an HTTP 200 OK from the server, even if the page doesn't exist. Mod rewrite takes over before the request gets to the part in the web server code where it looks at the filesystem to see if the file actually exists etc.

Therefore, if you're using mod rewrite, the spider won't be able to tell the difference between a "virtual" page/url and a real one.
