    Yahoo Search Traffic Myth

many search reports estimated that the Yahoo search traffic is about 60%-80% of Google's. But Yahoo search / google traffic ratios for mos of us is about 15% or less. Where has Yahoo traffic gone?
There're got be some sites which get most of search traffic from Yahoo search than from Google.

I'm not sure where you heard that.

I believe most people think of the ratios something like:

    G 70% / Y 20% / M 5% / Other 5%

This obviously varies a bit depending on the keywords, some say that Yahoo and MSN searches are less sophysicticated, and various other hypothisis, etc...

Yahoo! only accounts for around 15-20% of search engine traffic. It is slightly more biased towards B2C searches though.

The sites we manage show about the same with AOL creeping in for some of the sites.

I wonder if the traffic in the report mentioned (Y: 26.6%) always seems a lot less to us SEO's as Yahoo always seems to have 4 adverts filling the top section of the results?

I would say you are right about the 4 ads at the top reducing clickthrough rates on yahoo. they look to users as if they are the search results!

That is very enlightening. I have 1 site that has a high Y ranking for the major keyword phrase. We are a regional business and the description in Yahoo excludes the regions...so we seem more expansive than we are. My Yahoo traffic has been about 70% of the google traffic with an overemphasis on this keyword phrase.

Its nice to get a better picture of reality across the board.
