    Verizon and Future of Yahoo

Hello, now that Yahoo is under Verizon is there any potential for a revival for them? I don't really consider them when doing any SEO for clients.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Good question. But I would never disregard Yahoo. Bing/Yahoo/MSN together hold a good percentage of performed searches.

And Google has to eventually stumble.

I should say I do not track anything in Yahoo. They used to be a bigger deal right? Wonder if Verizon bring them back at all.

It has been a while since Yahoo was a big deal, but last time I checked they still held almost 30% of the search market (Yahoo/Bing/MSN). I haven't checked in a year or more, so that number could be lower.
But I don't have a lot of confidence in Verizon.

Good point, I don't either. They may of bought it for any number of reason none of which are to bring back the search market.

30% is way high I think. Bing Yahoo together are closer to 12. https://www.netmarketshare.com/searc...ket-share.aspx

Google will eventually be dethroned by a social sharing type of search engine.

It wasn't long ago IE held 98% of the browser market. Google will be dethroned.

Agreed, Yahoo used to be the king before Google.

Two companies seem to dominate the internet and that's Google and Facebook.

Facebook tries to buy out any slight threat, they've all obliged so far except Snapchat. Within a month of Snapchat standing firm and not selling up, Facebook implemented Snapchats core features into Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. There's now talk on Snapchat being in deep trouble. Maybe they regret being the first Social Network to defy Facebook?

    In regards to search

I'm not so sure any new, innovative company could compete with Google. Even with a beautiful idea, it's hard to compete with 20 thousand Google developers and near unlimited cash. The main reason IE dropped off, like many of Microsofts products is mainly that IE became very slow, buggy, never seemed to improve and there were much better alternatives on the rise. Google seems to stay one foot ahead, I admire them greatly - Microsoft haven't been on the ball in many years in my opinion, they always enter the party far too late and they have missed out on so many opportunities because of this.

I think if there was a new, innovative search engine... Google would either replicate their core values and dethrone them before they even get throned, or they'd just buy them out.

Edit: I guess the threat could be Facebook creating some form of search engine integrated into Facebook.
