Importance of a Title to MSN

Alright, I have been meaning to post this for a while but what with all the updates going on in G, I haven't had the time. Anyway, I noticed something a while back about MSN and their affinity for titles and had it confirmed recently. The first time, we went through and optimized the title tags for all of our pages. This is nothing new as its a generally accepted SEO practice that your tags should be optimized. However, this singly action, changing the title tags, caused us to jump up to the number one spot on MSN for our main kw phrase. We had previously been in the 30's. Then again more recently, I was tinkering with my new Mike Martz site which had been indexed but not ranking for anything yet. I went back through and changed the target phrase in my titles from football or the St. Louis Rams etc to Mike Martz. Once again, we jumped up to the number one spot. Both times, the only change made was to include the kw in our title tags. Now, I know that the title tag has always been important etc but to have such drastic results suggests that MSN places a high value on the title tags. Anyone else have any experiences similar or contrary to mine? Does this mean that for good MSN rankings all you need is optimized titles?
    I love SEO Chat.

That's true! I think MSN loves some of the onpage factors like crazy... Have your keywords in the domain name and it will fall in love with you (at first sight)

Have you had experience with any other factors that MSN values this much? I am thinking that an experiment might be in order here... although I don't spend much time optimizing for M right now... most of my effort is spent on G.

skitzz - The other OP factor that I would say matters for MSN optimization is - adding fresh content to your site on regular basis.

I have seen some of my sites getting to the #1 - #10 on some highly competitive KWs with only OP optimization and a little link spam.

Unless one of my sites is experiencing the Sandbox effect by G, its rankings in Y and M does matter for me a lot.

I was ranked #3 for my main kw in MSN. I changed the first two words in my title tag to the kw and I went to #1 within a day.

Yes. MSN loves titles and love a url that contain the keywords you are targeting. The right domain can allow you to jump straight to the first page on MSN for a moderatly competive keyword as long as you have some backlinks pointing towards it.
