Help! Why are we in yahoo without any submission?

    Hi all,
    We have recently launched Video4SanDiego.com.

This is an all streaming video business directory and entertainment guide website for people who live in and visit san diego. We have not submitted to yahoo or any other engine yet but we appear in yahoo search and rank pretty well for some search terms " Streaming video san diego " San Diego resort video " and others. Why would these show up when we have never submitted? The site is noteworthy for several reasons ( not the least of which is the amazing video quality & hundreds of videos )- but why would it appear - could it have been found with a link from an external site?
It doesnt appear in the yahoo directory - but does return search results.

I have one other concern - could a former (unhappy) employeee submit my site without my approval? Could someone doing so repeatedly have a negitive impact my ranking? As I have reason to think this may be happening but dont know for sure. Is there a way to find out and is there a way to report abuse to yahoo?

PS- For anyone who is interested there are video bio's for me on the "video 4 san diego behind the scenes" link on the navigation bar on the homepage.

For starters I believe you need to take a look at the SEO FAQ section. Most questions there about submitting to search engines are listed under Google, but they are valid for Yahoo. In fact it should not be necessary to EVER submit a site to the major search engines, because they WILL follow links from other sites to yours. That's about the point of SEO nowadays They don't ask for your aproval. And repeated submissions are not likely to hurt you. You could just check out the Yahoo help section for the abuse address, but I guess abuse@yahoo.com will do fine. But submitting someone's site (allegedly) is NOT a form of SE abuse...

Just about every major search engine states in the TOS (terms of service) that excessive submissions to their index will or could effect you negitively, but this doesn't make sence as it would enable others to attemp to get your site banned.

So I imagine it should do nothing to your search situation.

    Video 4,

Most of my sites are showing up in Yahoo without submitting too. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

    Don't worry, be HAPPY!

There is nothing to worry about. As I have mentioned quite a few times earlier, the major search engines like Google for example index websites (or find) by themselves which is completely normal, this is one of the reasons why search engine submission is not necessary.
