    Any sandbox effect for MSN?

I have a friend looking to start up his own business. I am guiding him in his start into the world of seo. I think msn is his best bet for quick results. I am trying to give him a time frame for how long he has to work on his site before seeing results. I know the competition and how much time he has to devote, I just want to make sure MSN's algorithm hasn't changed to keep new sites ranking lower.

Does anyone know of such a filter?

How long did it take you to get to the top of MSN?

I had a deep craw of a site in Sept and was top 10 within the week for a hand full of key words. About a month later I was #1 for about 150 key words. The domain was brand new, only had it for 2 or 3 months before the site went live... Sorry to say that mid december all but about 10 of my keywords dropped out of the top 100 for msn. Weird huh...

Did you stop adding new content? Did you stop adding backlinks?

The site is updated at least one a week. When I had the great placement I had only one or two backlinks from other sites that I owned... Since then the only new backlinks I have added are from directory sites and probably not worth much (finding creative was to get backlinks is not my strong point, if you have any suggestions im all ears) The pages that were ranking well consisted of not much more than an industry related dictionary. The pages were small and, I hate to admit it, created for an AdSense campaign and to give the site depth. This probably doesn't help much, but there it is.

Interesting...it almost SOUNDS like MSN gave you a brief moment of sunshine for the links from your other sites, but then lowered your ranking for not providing additional quality links within a given period of time. (Just a hunch)

I would concentrate on quality more than quantity. Start by doing 3-way links with other sites (making use of a site you don't care about for the outgoing links), articles, and press releases. These should bring in some quality links.

If anyone cares... looks like msn has started to reindex some of the pages they removed. They are being added at a rate of about 10 pages a week.

MSN is super quick with getting new sites indexed. Despite the changes they are adding it is still possible to rank for some sweet stuff within a week .
