Question Possible - ASK Jeeves SERPS are manipulated - Possibly

Just a possibililty - perhaps just a coincidence

Noticed That when doing a search for the terms:
search engines, or search engine, or even search
On the organic/natural SERPs - Ask Jeeves and Teoma came up 1st and 2nd repectively on all results

For organic search its a waste of time. Turned to it after your post and searched for my keywords. Wow, we are #2. Have noticed no surge in traffic.

But the big problem is and remains There are 10 paid listings at the top. We are essentially 12th. As a true search engine it is really an ADVERTISING PLATFORM, that also happens to show organic results. Who cares if they manipulate organic results; what they already show is a non-organic paid set of listings.

Question Keywords Searched for - are a factor

Getting some traffic from Ask Jeeves for on natural (organic) listings, a few sites are on the first page for competative keywords and complex search terms
- it seems likely that sophisticated Searchers may put in relatively more complex queries and then Search furture down for the SERP, or in the case of complex terms - there may simply be no PPCs to distract from the SERPs!

But - it is interesting upon deciphering their algorithms and noticing that unusual coincidence with their SERPs

It is important in the sense that this may hint at what other search engines may be doing - but not so blatently

after all, on Google for the SAME three keywords , Google is behind several Search Engines on its SERPs
(yahoo Altavista Lycos Dogpile)
certainly don't think THOSE SERPs have been tampered with ;)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=search+engines

But on Yahoo - Yahoo comes up first for Search Engine and Search Engines....

and Yes, yahoo Does manually tweak its Organic SERPs if a page is also in its directory.

Again, this may all be a coincidence - but if not - does it not give an insight for SEOs about the politics of SEARCH :
