How to get in Teoma?
One search engine that has never spidered any of my sites is Teoma. Is there a secret that I don't know about on this SE?

Beats me, they let me occupy their serps one day (instantly ranking well though) and I haven't done anything special... Maybe it's a link count threshold of some sort. A kind of mega-sandbox that you can jump out of???

Teoma is much slower in finding new sites. Be patient.
Mod note: moving this into the Ask Jeeves / Teoma forum.

thanks, didn't notice that Ask Jeeves was a part of Teoma. That changes this a little, but not much. I get the Ask Jeeves bot a lot on my sites. But, Teoma shows no backlinks for site. When I search for my company name specifically, it's no 1 in Google, no.1 in Yahoo, no.1 in MSN, doesn't even show up in Teoma.
I just didn't know if there were some Teoma "techniques" out there to get you in or optimize for it. |

I agree with Wit, i think they have some super-mega sandbox for new sites BUT also for existing websites. Existing pages usually they ages to update in Teoma if they change.

Personally, I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about Ask Jeeves/Teoma. Their spider practically lives at my site, I think it grabs every page at least 2 or 3 times a month, and I have good rankings in their index, but I get very little traffic from them. Perhaps they cater to a different crowd than my site, but I don't worry about Teoma at all. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the ones that will really bring you the traffic. Google especially seems to be the big one today.
I do wish things would even out a bit more, I like the results I get from Ask Jeeves, and I also like Alta Vista, but they just don't seem to have the sheer numbers of visitors needed to drive traffic. But you never know, things could change I guess... Drew |

subnet and others - It is very wise to worry about ranking well in Teoma, as it is the only engine I know of that focuses uniquely on local authority rather than global authority. As other engines add this piece or start relying on it more and more, it will be to the interests of every SEO to have good positioning in Teoma.
How? Like the other engines, you need links. But, with Teoma, a link from a non-related site or page will not help you (at all). You need many very-closely themed links pointing to your site. Sadly, the link command does not work in Teoma as far as I know, but the best way I've found is to search Teoma for my keyword phrases and stems of them and get links from the pages Teoma ranks well (top 50). Good luck! |

I agree with randfish that Teoma can be a good bellwether for how your site performs in clustering/thematic ranking algorithms.

As I read, SiteSubmit is no longer active and accepting new submissions. Therefore, can you still submit a site to the Teoma and Fast dirrectories and if so, how?
Thank you.

First, it is important to note that Ask Jeeves is not part of Teoma, but that Teoma is now part of Ask Jeeves. Teoma's technology analyzes multiple parameters such as text, link structure, popularity and status to determine the ranking and relevancy of a site -- very similar to Google but very different in many ways.
Teoma is a very powerful search engine -- and I would argue it is probably the strongest, as it continues to grow and add features such as "narrow your search" and "expand your search" provided after an inquiry has been made. Teoma pulls results based on IP. If you can get into teoma, the rest should fall into place in other search engines. It takes time, but once you've reached success you can expect to be ranked well throughout other search engines. Best, Nickolas |

So to get into Teoma, is there somewhere to submit your site or you just have to wait for them to find you?

Focussing on google yahoo and msn will help in the long run.
